Dress in your favorite tango-wear, grab your shoes (and maybe your sweetie) and join the rest of the tango community at our Valentine's Day themed "Hearts and Flowers" milonga on February 13th at Four Seasons.

This is a particularly important milonga because we will be holding our delayed election. come vote for people to represent us this year on the board of directors. More to come on the final slate of candidates. Please consider running and give your fellow TSoM members a real choice.

[TSOM-Announce] Another great week! Another great captain! And next week, nearly royalty!

Dear Tango Friends,

Whoever said change is a good thing will delight in the revolving door of Mini-Beginni teachers!  Last week we were delighted to have Diana Devi at the helm of the newly curious.

This week, we’re very grateful to have Nick in command!   Mini Beginni starts at 7 and ends at 7:30 followed by our regular practica.

Send or bring your TangoCurious friends.  Let’s give them a chance to share this magic, and set them on a musical path they can’t escape!

Next week, we will be visited by Tomas Howlin and Michelle Lamb. Both are exquisite dancers and teachers.

Please note the seminar schedule is unusual! They will hold a Monday class at Desperados on Feb 8 at 7:30 followed by a Practilonga at 9:00

So this great tango weekend is a Saturday, Sunday & Monday eventJ

If you didn’t win one of our free class passes…  Contact Pauline Oo and get it sorted!  Paulinetango@gmail.com

She is offering early discounts until 1 Feb. That’s this Monday.

Wishing you all the best in dancing and in life,

Scott, Michael, and your friends at Desperados

Ps. Scott and I want to thank the many Desperados who have enthusiastically volunteered to help the TangoCurious find their true paths.  Your generosity is very heartening to us indeed!!

Re: [TSOM-Announce] Milonga Caliente - Saturday, January 30th

In response to several inquiries and to make life easier for everyone who isn't familiar with the University of Minnesota campus, a detailed map showing the Recreation & Wellness Center has been added to the main Milonga Caliente event page at http://utango.umn.edu/milonga-caliente.  Just click to plot personalized directions on Google Maps and make your way to the Rec Center's main entrance on Harvard Street SE, highlighted as a yellow star.

We look forward to dancing with all of you tomorrow night!

Hi again, everyone. We really appreciate the community interest and support we've gotten for our special grand milonga this Saturday and look forward to seeing all of you there. Here are some additional updates that we wanted to share as the date approaches:
  • Lesson -- There will be a short all-level lesson before the milonga at 8:30 PM, led by Eric Li. It will be included with admission and makes this an even better opportunity to introduce beginning dancers to tango and milonga culture in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Performance -- Eric and Brittany Drury will also be presenting a short performance during the milonga.
  • Parking -- We understand that parking near our milongas can be a challenge and have tried to make this easier by reserving a number of spots in the University Avenue Ramp next door to the Rec Center. These will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis (just inquire at our registration table) after which normal ramp rates will apply, so plan to arrive early and consider sharing a ride to help everyone get the most benefit from this. Taking a Green Line train is another great way to reach the East Bank, of course, as are the parking options listed previously.
  • Alcohol policy -- Due to University and Rec Center rules, we respectfully ask that milonga patrons refrain from bringing alcohol to this event.
Thanks again, and see you Saturday!

[TSOM-Announce] TSoM Website Calendar New feature - Event filter

There have been issues with the TSoM calendar on our website, over the last few months, namely events disappearing without explanation.

I developed a solution, and the calendar was migrated to an updated model on January 24th, to help reduce these incidents, and provide you with a more reliable schedule of tango events in Minnesota.

In addition, the calendar now has a new feature! Events can be filtered by organizer.

See the calendar at www.mntango.org/tsomcal . Simply click the arrow on the top right, just above the calendar, next to "Agenda", and select the organizer(s) of interest (check mark), and deselect the rest (click to remove the check mark).  The calendar will reset the next time you visit, showing all events once again.

If you are a tango event organizer in Minnesota, and have not been contacted (on your gmail account) concerning the TSoM calendar migration, please email the calendar admin for more information (TSoMEventCalAdmin@mntango.org)

Happy Dancing!

[TSOM-Announce] Mini-Beginni Launches.. separation anxiety ensues

Hello Dancing Friends and fellow space travellers..
Last week the Mini-Beginni lesson launched with a roar.
At first, It sounded like a Russian bear, but now I
realize it was the sound of an international space shot;
and stage one had just rumbled to life.
Naturally, being passengers atop this space candle, we are
a little anxious: What about stage 2? Will it burn as
brightly? Will gravity pull us down to Earth?
Well, you will be comforted to know that in the interest
of Super Stratospheric Tango, we are changing captains
mid-flight! You'll all feel safer..
This week, Diana Devi will pilot our Mini-Beginni journey
through its second session. The lesson starts at 7 and
will wrap up at 7:30 to allow regular practica to
commence.
We were delighted and amazed by the turn-out of
experienced volunteers AND by the number of brave souls
who took their first orbits around the dance floor with
us! Thank you for coming and for sending your
TangoCurious friends. Please do more of this!
Keep in mind, we are simply trying to give people a
musical and welcoming first experience with Tango. The
lessons are simple, and the message is too: Tango is fun,
you can do it, and we welcome you to join us.
Scott and I welcome you to join us this Monday to enjoy
the company of some of the finest dancers in Minnesota:
Yourselves!

Wishing you the best in all things,
Scott, Michael, and your friends at Desperados Tango

[TSOM-Announce] 14 days before you see Tomas!

The countdown has begun...

Hello Tango Friends,

Last week I was in Atlanta working my butt off in Chicho and Juana's
classes. In 2 weeks, I'll be in Minneapolis working just as hard with
Tomas and Michelle. I've chosen to invest in my tango -- it makes me
very happy! What about you?

If you haven't signed up for our fun weekend with Tomas Howlin and
Michelle Lamb, you have 10 days before prices go up ($125 to $130 for
the full pass; $30 to $40 per class). So :) don't show up at the door
unless you're OK paying more per class.

Right now, the lead-follow mix is even. Yay! Thanks to all you early birds!

Weekend flyer is at http://tinyurl.com/tomas-2016

Or register and pay online at https://squareup.com/market/paulinetango

Want to pay in person? Please "like"
https://www.facebook.com/events/1029329657088335/ -- I post updates on
dance whereabouts!

Tango hugs, Pauline

Buenos Aires in March? I had such a good time in BA in November, I am looking to go again in March. A few going this March have asked me to provide assistance as a BA tourguide. Would you like to come along?

My greatest joy is helping visitors understand and feel comfortable in the authentic Porteño world. If you stay in the house with us, we will have parties where I will introduce you to my milonguero/a friends. We will dance at the parties, opening the door for other connections in the authentic BA milongasYou bypass the usual initiation period, and feel immediately like you belong. When you dance often and with very good Porteños, your trip is so much more valuable.

We also enjoy the safety and camaraderie of other housemates - for meals at home, for practicing in the tango room, for jaunts around the city or out-of-town excursions. So if you come to Buenos Aires with us, you can choose autonomy, or hang out with a new best friend or go out with the whole group. You never have to feel alone. We have parties, I will give you city tours, shoe and clothes shopping tours (with the best discounts), and help you to become familiar with the streets and public transportation so that you can feel comfortable. I will help you negotiate, and understand the complex money situation as well as keep you out of trouble. I provide assistance to help you find the best deals and steer clear of overpricing and fraud - which can be common, especially for the tango tourist. I can get you were you need/want to go, or see what you want to see, and make your time in BA very valuable!
Remember, medical and dental care in Buenos Aires is excellent, (often better than the US) and much cheaper than the U.S. If you are in need of some elective or non-insured procedure, let me know and I will find the best care for you. This can often save you more than the cost of the trip.

[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: Tango Fusion January 🎉

January 23, Saturday evening Tango Fusion Milonga / social dance
View this email in your browser

This Saturday evening! Jan.23
Tango Fusion milonga at Dance Life Ballroom

Come and join us for a lovely evening of dancing, great music, atmosphere and free hugs!
What you should do? Well, be there on time to join the fun! Bring your dancing shoes!

You've got questions, we have the answers:
*Do I have to dress up?

No, you do not have to, but you most certainly can! Many people will add a little sparkle by wearing something festive to a milonga. Wear something you can easily move in; you are dancing!

*Can I come by myself?

Yes you can! No need to bring a partner, however you will heighten your fun when you bring your friends, remember that there is a mini lesson so they will not feel like a fish out of water!

*How will I get asked to dance? Or do I ask somebody?

People will look your way and nod with their head to see if you are interested, or they will simply come up to you and ask. It is always your choice and you can either accept or decline. You can do the same to others; kinda "stare" at a potential dance partner until he/she looks at you, or simply walk up to them and ask him/her to dance.

*Do I need special dance shoes?

You will need comfortable shoes that you can pivot (easily turn on the ball of your foot) in. Mens shoes should not have heavy ridges on the soles. As it so happens, take a look below: special tango shoes are for sale!

Saturday evening January 23
9 pm mini lesson
9.30 pm Milonga starts
Where? at Dance Life Ballroom, 6015 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis.
Who?  Your DJ: Paul Lohman, your hostess: Sabine Ibes
How much?  $ 10  ( with valid student id $5)

Guess who will be at this Saturdays milonga?
