Talk about intentful
 dancing!!!
Look at Gaston Torelli ( My dance teacher) and Moira Castellano dancing to to Donato.  What intentions do you see? Fluid would be my first observation. That embrace! I wonder if being envious can also be a good thing?? It does drive me to be better, a deep feeling that stirs inside: " I think I can, I think I can"
Watching and mimicking are a powerful learning tool. Want to share your video here? Tell us about why you are moved!

Private lessons? Absolutely!

why you should take advantage of that possibility

In a private lesson we focus completely on you, and if you bring your partner, on your partnership as well.

How does it feel when you dance? Deepen your personal tango knowledge with a style that fits you!

[TSOM-Announce] Extreme Free Tango

Hello Tango Friends,

Do you remember a few short years ago when everything was Extreme?  Extreme sports, extreme eating, extreme makeovers, tiddly winks... etc? Well thank goodness that fad is gone!  And of course you can be sure we would never resurrect it to manipulate you into dancing more tango! Totally!

So this week at Practica, Desperados announce Maximized Tango!

That's right. This Monday, come and practice, and then Share a Move to  Maximize your tango.

Come out on the floor with any partner and show us something you like or something you're working on.  We'll put your name in the hat for a lucky draw. Three people will win single class passes for Maxi Gluzman's upcoming seminar weekend. And one super lucky winner will win a day pass (three classes).

Augusto is bringing Maxi into town, and is co-sponsoring the prizes with us.  Thanks Augusto!

Paul Lohman and Diana Devi have volunteered to  manage the affair this week, as I am on travel.
(Just another reason I can't win a pass!)

As always, Prime Desperado Scott Chase will ensure that all of you have a friendly atmosphere and good music to fuel your evening fun.

Wishing you all the best,

Michael, Scott and your friends at Desperados

Flexibility of the close embrace:  Why is it that some steps that seem so simple are so difficult to lead or follow, or they don't feel totally good when performed? The answer is (almost) always in the embrace. In this class we will learn a series of steps to illustrate how we can adapt our embrace to expand our vocabulary and the quality of our dance.

[TSOM-Announce] New Proposed TSoM Bylaws

Greetings Tango Dancers,

The TSoM Board is in the process of updating our bylaws. (are some of you yawning already?....)

The Bylaws are the document that regulates how our organization is run and while they may not make for scintillating reading, they are important as they help the board to be efficient and protect our wonderful organization.

You can read both the existing TSoM Bylaws here:

http://www.mntango.org/boardLibrary/TSoM_ByLaws_2013-Jul-25-3.pdf

And the proposed bylaws here:

http://www.mntango.org/boardLibrary/Proposed-2016-TSoM-Bylaws-Revision.pdf

We are interested in any comments you have about the proposed bylaws. It is the Board’s plan to approve the new bylaws at the October 20th board meeting – with or without further revision.

Thanks

Paul

[TSOM-Announce] TSoM Waterfall

The TSoM Board fields lots of comments from our members and we try as best we can to be responsive. One area that often yields comments is the Waterfall.

TSoM Milongas have a Waterfall dance – a mixer – because we feel that it is part of our mission to create a friendly environment and one that enables people to “mix” and get to know one another. Some folks love the Waterfall; others do not.

So to try to find some middle ground, the board decided to be a bit more predictable in how and when the Waterfall happens at TSoM Milongas. Going forward:

·       the Waterfall will take place around 10:15 pm

·       and will be two songs in length.

This way we can get folks dancing with each other and perhaps even dancing with people they haven’t danced with in the past, while also limiting the length of time.

All this being said, the Twin Cities is, in fact, one of the most welcoming tango communities in the country. Thanks to all of you who make is so! But we want to foster and enhance that image. So we hope that you will take part in the Waterfall and seize the opportunity to meet some new dancers and continue to make the Twin Cities a fun and welcoming place to dance tango.

See you on the dance floor,

Paul Lohman

On behalf of the TSoM Board.

[TSOM-Announce] Midwest Tango Festival

MORE TANGO HONORS FOR MINNESOTA.

The Twin Cites has been chosen for the Midwest Tango Festival. The festival will be held the weekend of November 25th, 26th, and 27th (yes -- the Thanksgiving weekend). The organizers found Minnesota to be active and welcoming with a vibrant tango community. I know they were correct in their assessment.

www.midwesttangofestival.com/

The organizers of the Festival are looking for "crash" housing (a cot, a day bed, a mattress, a shower, etc.) for about 12 experienced festival team members who will  come in from afar to make the Midwest Tango Festival professional and beneficial for the participants.

About 150 to 200 out-of-town participants will find lodging at our local hotels. All they need is a smile and, perhaps, a tanda. Lessons and milongas go on all day.

The festival will also need volunteers from our local tango community;  for example, venue set-up, venue clean-up, decorations, refreshments. Any special touches, such as a resource for empanadas or tango-related decorations would also be appreciated.

Please contact Scott Chase if you can help.
The local team members will be rewarded by the festival organizers.

[TSOM-Announce] Bob Barnes' Tango Trio at Loring Pasta Bar, Sunday 9/25, 6-10PM

¡Queridos Tangueros!

This Sunday (September 25) Bob Barnes' Tango Trio will play an evening of Tangos, Vals and Milongas for dancing at the Loring Pasta Bar.  The trio features Amy Tobin on violin, Greg Byers on Bass and Bob Barnes on Bandoneon.

The trio specializes in playing arrangements and transcriptions of Golden Age instrumentals with some danceable Piazzolla arrangements and originals thrown in. This Sunday we will play new Tandas of DiSarli, Troilo & Piazzolla, as well as some of older tandas. We will also play our danceable arrangement of Astor Piazzolla's "4 Seasons of Buenos Aires". And if you are wondering, there is no overlap in repertory between Rogue Tango and the Trio. Bob will DJ tandas of golden age tangos (and beyond!) between and after the 3 live sets.

The Loring Pasta Bar is at 327 14th Avenue Southeast,  Minneapolis, MN 55414 (612) 378-4849. Reservations are suggested if you would like to have dinner and to be seated around the dance floor. There is no cover charge, but we do suggest that you buy at least a drink or two to help support live music.

¡Un abrazo milonguero a todos!

-Amy, Greg & Bob

[TSOM-Announce] ISO photos of local tango scene

Hello Twin Cities Tango Enthusiasts,

I am currently working on developing a new website for TSoM. It would be great if I had some fresh photographs depicting the local tango scene. TSoM's current website has a decent collection already (a lot shared by Dave Rost) which will be useful, but they are getting a little stale historically.

If any of you — especially those who regularly photograph events (Paul Lohman, Juan Garcia, Yanhua Deng . . .) — have some favorite images you'd like to share, please forward to me (Don Rowe): dgrowe201@icloud.com. They should show milonga parties in action — either wide-angle or focused detail of such. This may include shots of live music bands at our local events. Rochester is included in "local."

Please: just send me your favorites, not your entire collection.

It will be assumed that any images you send to me/TSoM will be granting TSoM permission to post on the new website or use in promotional materials.

Thanks in advance for your help.
