Hosted by Andres Gross, the twin cities own authentic tango singer, who will perform with his band "Tango of Three" starting at 11pm. A selection of wine will be offered to sample from Piatelli vineyards and special guests include Fernanda Ghi, renowned tango dancer and teacher, who is in town this weekend for workshops. Fernanda Ghi in Minneapolis: 

Fer is arriving on Wednesday and leaving on Monday.  Please remember to register online before the 26th.  For logistic reason it won't be possible to accommodate walk-ins unless you send me an email (ferinmpls@gmail.com) ahead of time or come with a partner.  Also keep in mind that these workshops are intended for small groups, so even if you show up with a partner you may not be able to get in.

Master class for Followers – Thursday, Sep 27 7pm-9pm, at the Cowles Center.  This workshop is for women only, to work on adornments/embellishments and playfulness on the dance floor. Cost: $30.

Master class for Leaders – Saturday, Sep 29 12:30pm-2:30pm, at Four Seasons Dance studio.  This workshop is for anybody working on her/his leading technique.  Focus will be on giros. Cost: $30.  Each leader needs to have a partner.  Only the ones taking the workshop as leaders need to pay.  Followers won't pay unless they switch roles.

Intensive: Impulsos en el Tango – Saturday and Sunday, Sep 29 and 30 3pm-5:30pm, at Four Seasons Dance Studio.  Cost: $120.  This is a 5 hours workshop spread in 2 days, so it's 2.5 hours each day.  Cost is per person for the 2 days workshop.

Fernanda is an incredible teacher and coach, providing instruction and value to every level of tango dancer from beginner to professional.  Together with Guillermo Merlo are 1999 World Tango Champions and 1998 Tony Award nominees for their choreography in the Broadway show Forever Tango.  They are founders and creative directors of Artango Dance Company and This is Tango Now!.  Currently based in Boston, Massachusetts.  More info about them: http://www.artango.dance/

[TSOM-Announce] Puro Tango canceled this Friday night at 4 Seasons Dance

Due to a weekend long blues dance event, we will cancel this Friday nights Puro Tango milonga hosted by Micheal Cordner. Thanks to the tango community for helping us spread the word. Please continue to support Micheal and his milonga; next up on October 19.

In case you didn't know- Micheal is our featured instructor, along with dance partner and co-instructor Andrea DuCane, every Tuesday night, for our Level 2 (Intermediate-Advanced) Tango dance class. Drop-ins are welcome. This is a popular class, covering some of the more intricate patterns and always emphasizing strong foundational technique. Please feel free to join us tonight as we continue to explore the joys of Tango Vals.

For those of you interested or curious about the blues dance community, this is a weekend long workshop featuring classes and socials. Why taking classes with Fernanda Ghi?

Follower:

You are a woman and have been dancing tango for a while.

You would like to add more "spice" to your dance.

What you need to do: register for the Follower's Master Class. Cost: $30. No partner. Location: The Cowles Center, Minneapolis. Sep 27, 7pm-9pm.

Leader:

You have been dancing tango for a while.

You are a leader or a follower working on your leading skills.

You know how to do Giros but you are NOT Copes (that's right, accept it).  Even if you were, there is always room for improvement...

What you need to do: register for the Leader's Master Class. Cost: $30. You need a partner so you can practice the leading techniques learned. You may find a partner that is at least at the same level of your dance. Your partner does NOT pay, unless he/she switches roles with you. Example: Juan & Aimee register as partners. Juan pays $30, Aimee doesn't pay because she won't be leading.  Maris 7 Tamara register as partners, each one pays $30 because they will switch roles. Location: Four Seasons Dance Studio, Minneapolis. Sep 29, 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Intensive: for Leaders and Followers:

You have been dancing tango for a while and feel comfortable on the dance floor.

You are a follower, a leader, or both.

You are ready to work on your movements and how to generate impulse with your partner and with the music. It's not about force, steps or poses.

You are ready to work hard for 2 continuous days, 2.5 hours each day in a small group (not more than 10 couples).

What you need to do: register alone or with a partner. Switching partners will be optional.  NOTE: we need to have the same amount of leaders and followers, so if you register alone, it will depend on the availability (or no availability) of the opposite role.  First come first serve. Each person pays $120 for the whole intensive which is 2 days (5 hours total). Location: Four Seasons Dance Studio, Minneapolis. Sep 29 and 30 3pm-5:30pm.

Workshop by Sabine Ibes This Saturday morning!   Followership and Leadership in Argentine Tango. Both are crucial to connect with one and other, to communicate, to be able to feel and explore the dance together. If Leadership is about setting expectations, then followership is about setting boundaries. And how do you use Tango Technique to express these boundaries and to set expectations?  When you are leading, at what point are you able to feel that you should now follow the follower? How do you do that? How do you respond? When you are following and using your followers power to express your expectation, within which boundaries do you work? How can your technique help you?? Connection, a key word and element in Argentine Tango. Connection is more than the physical touch of your skin with your partner, or the way you embrace.
