[TSOM-Announce] Desperardos stop dancing..

Dear Tango Friends,

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any crazier..

The Tango Desperados have been informed they have to stop dancing…

On the 8^th bar of the song… We’ll pause really, because I don’t think any of us want to stop.

This is getting complicated. I might be in over my head. 

Let’s call in an expert to explain:

 

Bob Barnes, Tango dancer and Bandoneonist of the Hiawatha Tango Orchestra, will give a mini musicality lesson on Monday Nov. 27. He will show how tango music follows predictable patterns and will show you places to pause. Most tango phrases are 8 steps long & since the singer breathes on the last step, the 7th. step is a pretty good place to stop dancing!

 

Bob will show how some pauses raise you up and some ground you. He will also show how leaders can use neuroscience and chamber music to make dances more memorable. You can spend a lifetime learning steps from great dancers. Sometimes the music can tell you when to not use them!

 

Sometime after the mini lesson, Bob will play a tanda or two on solo bandoneon

 

And for the sake of your total holiday satisfaction, I should add that Bob will also be playing with his Hiawatha Orchestra for the TSOM Christmas Milonga!

But you don’t have to wait that long.  Come this Monday!.

 

Ps. It’s also my mum’s birthday that night.. (Margaret) So if she comes, perhaps you’ll help me wish her a happy 86^th?

[TSOM-Announce] Fate of the Bird..Extended

Lucian’s early bird that is..

Greetings Tango Friends, and a very happy Thanksgiving wish to all of you!

 

When I last reported, the early bird was facing a near certain demise with friends and family gathered to honour it’s expected passing on 22 November.

However, the mischievous Gods of Luck and Tango have intervened, and the Early Bird still lives. Heroic measures? Yes, we took a few. It might be the Bird of Frankenstein now, but it’s still alive!

 

If none of this makes sense to you, count your blessings.  You are probably sane.  (no promises)

 

The translation is quite simple:  Somebody (who could have been me, but I don’t recall precisely) forgot to bring the registration sheets to Desperados on the last day of the early bird.  I was so humiliated by that person, that the only remedy was to give the early bird an extension until this Monday.  So there you have it. I fully admit that other guy’s guilt.

 

If you wish to enjoy Luciana’s Midwest Tango Intensivo Weekend, you have until 27 Nov, Monday to avail of the early bird prices.

[TSOM-Announce] Early Bird in Hospice

Dear Tango Friends,

It is with overwhelming melancholy, that I must report the impending demise of Luciana’s Early Bird.  I originally hoped it would eventually become the sleeping bird, but a close examination by an internationally unknown ornithologist (me), has revealed that the early bird is going to transform, not into a beautiful swan, but into Dead Duck.  Sad.

 

On a lighter note before we dance the grave of the former early bird, you have a chance to pluck its golden feathers and present them for a discount to a weekend with one of Argentine Tango’s most esteemed teachers, Luciana Valle.  She has a wonderful reputation precisely because she’s worth every good word spoken about her. There are many.  While she has never been to the Twin Cities before, a few of our friends have studied with her. Please ask them for their impressions. Or you could look at the quotes from Alex Krebs and Tomas Howlin at the top of the event flyer. They were not shy in their praise.

Oh! back to mourning the bird..  The course of its demise is very clear at this point. After consulting with senior medical attendant and president of the roast duck appreciation society (me), the early bird’s last day is Wed 22 November. A small celebration of life dinner may be planned on the 23rd. My guess is that nearly the whole country will participate.

 

Indeed, it’s my hope that our whole community gets to participate in Luciana’s upcoming event.  (Dec1-3)

We will have 7 great classes, lovely milongas, practicas,  Luciana, and each other.  I nearly forgot, a nice contingent of peeps for out of town.

So what is in store for November  Glad you asked , it is a great time for us to review the rest of the material that Guille and I taught PLUS working on the details to make it your own!  Did not make to any of the classes we taught in October?  No worries, you will be able to ease right into it !  Tango and Posture the dynamic duo....   Thanks to those of you that came.  We had fun, learned a lot and changed the way that we dance!  Those that missed so sorry.  Never fear we will be offering again in a few months.   Thanks again to Becky Stanchfield.  Everyone felt a change in their body and was raving about the class!   More about Posture and Tango: What it is not ....  it is not about standing up straight  - it is about so much more.  Where does the weight fall on your heel?  Are you hyperextended at the knees or are they too bent.  Where is your head.  Is it to far forward ?  Where are you looking?  What are your shoulders doing?  Are you standing in a military position?  How do you sit in a chair?  How do you walk?  How do you walk in tango ?  In either open or close embrace ?  Does it matter?
