[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: Tango magic at Tango & I, feb newsletter

Meet SusaN McKenna - Tango & I
Tango facilitator

At Tango & I we have a program called:  THE FAST TRACK  Growing a tango community takes time and patience. It is crucial to have tango mentors to help stimulate the tango students in our Minnesota tango community. For new and old tango students to feel safe, nurtured and connected in their learning environment. The objective of the fast track became very clear to me over the many years that I have been studying tango, including organizing, building a comprehensive and extensive tango curriculum, choreography, improvising, and researching pedagogy and andragogy : Building a holistic, friendly  and idealistic tango community through well thought out training of teachers, mentors and assistants: the Tango & I facilitators.  We are so very blessed to have Megan Harrington, Morgan Keil, Avery Harrington as part of that program. And now Susan is a full participant as well.    Meet her here online, OR in person of course, when you come and join our group classes, practica or Tango Challenge.

Susan: I began my dance life as a young teen in a local ballet company. I earned a degree in modern dance and spent the next decades performing and occasionally teaching modern dance and contact improvisation.

Dance has been my passion for over forty decades, but it was in 2013 that I first glimpsed Argentine tango on a street corner in Buenos Aires. I had already seen a big tango performance on stage, but it was these two eighty-year olds holding each other so closely in sync that really inspired me.  I thought to myself, "That's what I want...to dance this beautiful dance for the rest of my life." Life events interrupted that thought for a couple of years but the seed was planted. One day I .................

Sabine uses slides to help you better understand your body movement, she also would like for you to bring socks ( bring the thick ones, brrrrr)
Wear comfortable pants that you are able to move in.

Friday May 3 - Milonga la Apertura -  At the Triune Temple in St. Paul

Lola Diaz and Fabian Salas are guests of Fred Gommels and the Blue Moon Ballroom. It will be their 6th annual event in Minnesota. As part of the festivities, Lola and Fabian are inviting YOU , yes YOU, the one who has enjoyed dancing tango for a while now, to be part of the show.

You can partner up with either Susan mcKenna, Morgan Keil or Sabine Ibes.
You have 3 months to practice a routine with your tango facilitator, to tango music of your choice.

Also Upcoming: I will be teaching Tango Lessons in Stillwater, MN!! Starting Saturday, February 16th at Belle Studios.

Musings: Milonga Month starts next month, in February. That means classes here will be devoted to the dance of milonga, and a little vals, too.  Milonga is such an important part of tango - yet it remains as an afterthought in many classes.  That is so wrong! It is so much fun, and can be easier than tango so is great for beginners. Once you learn milonga, the connection, posture, walk and embrace transfer easily to tango. Don't overlook milonga! Own it!  And tell your friends who are interested in tnaog that this is the best time to start.
