Classes this Month: Our classes will concentrate on opening up our minds to create a more responsive tango. As tango dancers, we must be open to many possibilities. We need to be ready for anything, as the dynamics of the floor, the space, the music, and our partner's position changes. This is great for our brains, but our brains, being inherently lazy, may not want to be that open and present at all times. It is extremely important for both followers and leaders! We'll work to expand our "mindfulness" in tango. Let's both learn to be ready for anything - and ready for nothing.

Private Lessons:  In group classes you learn the rough outlines of moves. In your private you will learn how to fix all the things that are keeping you from leading those moves seamlessly and well.

Tuesday Milonga: This milonga has been really great lately. Good dancing, music, food, and interesting liquors besides our usual wines. Don't miss out on the fun! 9:00 after the lessons.

Musings: "I'm sorry, that's all the steps that I know how to do". I've heard many a leader say this to their followers. There is a feeling among leaders that if they don't do a whole lot of complicated steps, that their partner will get bored. That isn't true. First of all, the follower isn't getting bored, but the leader may be. While the follower moves on to the next leader to get variety, leaders tends to dance their same dance all the time. This can be remedied by tuning moves into the music more, or taking an element out of your dance that you do too often, or making a well-worn move smaller, softer, cleaner, slower, or quicker.Believe me, your partner will be happier with those solutions than with a new move that you haven't really mastered yet. Followers have a wealth of ways to make the dance more interesting, with tiny embellishments and a feel for the music. And just walking, with a beautiful, musical, phrased, cadence and a sweet embrace, can be the most lovely dance of the evening.

[TSOM-Announce] Milonga Mala Yunta - May 25th, special edition

Hola tangueros,

Friday May 25th, 1810 in Buenos Aires: Revolución de Mayo

Friday May 25th, 2018 in Minneapolis: Milonga Mala Yunta

May 25th for Argentineans is as important as July 9th.  Starting on May 18th, every year Argentina celebrates la Semana de Mayo, a sequence of events that in 1810 triggered the May Revolution, or Revolución de Mayo, which helped Argentina achieve its independence from Spain.  This day marks the creation of the Primera Junta, a local authority formed entirely of members of the Buenos Aires society, taking over the governance of Buenos Aires from the Spanish Viceroyalty.  We celebrate the first gobierno criollo.

Join us to celebrate one of the most traditional Argentine Holidays with a milonga Buenos Aires' style.

DJ: Jennifer Wang

Admission: $10 ($5 full time students with ID)

Includes snacks, drinks, champagne raffle, chacarera and a special celebration:

9:30pm:  Milonga starts

9:30-10:30pm: Choripanes will be served on the alley (included with your admission to the milonga)

11pm: Raffle & tanda of folklore guided by Paulino Brener (3 songs where everybody is welcome to join)

11:15pm: Milonga continues

1:15am: Fin de Fiesta (a traditional Argentine way of ending any party, just a tanda of fun music)

Disclaimer: timing is "tentative" and "argentine" style... which means not necessarily accurate...

They say that if you haven't danced tango in Buenos Aires, then you haven't danced tango. Is this the year? Come with us to Buenos Aires this November! This will be my 20th trip - join us!

My greatest joy is helping visitors understand and feel comfortable in the authentic Porteño tango world and in BA. I will take you to milongas that are right for your level. I will introduce you to my milonguero and milonguera friends. Some of them will naturally dance with you, opening the door for other connections on the dance floor.

You do not need to be a great dancer! But you will leave as one, and with a much greater understanding of tango. You bypass the usual initiation period in BA milongas, and feel immediately like you belong. When you dance often and with very good milongueros, your trip is so much more valuable. Often, I see tables with people who come to BA alone, and they are not dancing at all, or dancing with poor dancers. This is sad, because if they had come with me, they would have been dancing.

My tango house guests also enjoy the camaraderie of other housemates - for meals at home, for milongas and classes, for practicing, for jaunts around the city or out-of-town excursions. So if you come to Buenos Aires with us, you can choose autonomy, hang out with a new best friend or go out with the whole group. You never have to feel alone. We have parties all the time. We will have typical Argentine meals, and usually an asado. I will give you classes, city tours, shoe and clothes shopping tours (with the best discounts), and help you to become familiar with the streets and public transportation so that you can feel comfortable. I will help you negotiate, and understand the complex money situation as well as keep you out of trouble. I provide maps and guides, as well as help you find the best deals and steer clear of overpricing and fraud - which can be common, especially for the tango tourist. As soon as you sign up, you will start receiving informational emails from me to help you plan and pack.

I plan on leaving around November 13.  You can stay the whole time or whatever time you want. Contact me with your dates!

My goal is to save you plenty of time, money and energy, while getting the most out of your vacation tour. The cost is reasonable - as little as $700/week for double occupancy.

Remember, medical and dental care in Buenos Aires is excellent, (often better than the US) and much cheaper than the U.S. If you are in need of some elective or non-insured procedure, let me know and I will find the best care for you. This can often save you more than the cost of the trip.
