[TSOM-Announce] CAROLINA & DONATO VISIT TO MINNEAPOLIS

Hello everybody,

Carolina & Donato are coming to town soon and this will be their first time together in Minneapolis.

Carolina used to be FabianSalas partner for many years, I know her since the first time she met Fabian and I saw her growing amazingly next to him.

Donato came to Minneapolis with Cecilia Gonzalez in 2008 and I got to teach and perform with him at the Austin Spring Tango Festival on 2009.

We taught a vals class together and the way he organized and passed the material to the students was exceptional.

It was a real pleasure to work with him as well as to perform with him.

This is a big opportunity for our community as not everybody can travel to Buenos Aires every year to be exposed to teachers of this caliber, it makes it very convenient for us to have them coming our way.

It will be also very nice to have the whole community coming together and enjoying working on their fun material as we used to do in the old times.

As you already saw in their youtubes, they are very refined dancers and they are very nice and kind people as well to transmit everything they know to their students in a very hearted and humble way.

Attending a whole week-end workshop Is also a very exciting experience for everybody and a good opportunity to meet students from other classes that are new in the community including my new students from the U of M dance program that already started to circulate to some of our milongas, so you can welcome them in to our community.

As always in this very short opportunities and in order to get the most of it I highly recommend you to attend the whole week-end and start from the first classes since their fundamentals will be the ones that will set the base of the whole week-end so you can easily grab what will be taught on the most advanced classes.

I understand everybody is busy and sometimes your personal schedule doesn't allow you to attend all the classes so just do the best you can but don't miss them.

Preregistration form is on line and there is flyers around the whole town.

Send me a check or leave it at 4 Seasons office on my shelf indicating which classes are you attending.

[TSOM-Announce] The last Puro Tango

Dear friends and patrons, this Friday will be last Puro Tango on the fourth Friday of the month . It saddens me to give it up but it is not sustainable anymore. Four Seasons has been extremely generous in allowing me to continue as long as I have. They have not been paid what they should for a long time now , and quite frankly it is not enjoyable when so few people attend.
When I began the milongas about 15 years ago There was nothing except Tsom and Friday night was a good night. For many years the studio did it for next to nothing and I did it for free every Friday. As the community grew and my life changed David Rost took on a night so I could have some family time and he was the person to do it , having a considerable collection and love of the music. Years later Christopher arrived and I thought with his enthusiasm and knowledge that i could give up another Friday.
Now there are so many venues on so many nights , that something had to give. I think with back to back milongas on friday and sat on the fourth friday sat. seems to be the better night , people are rested.
That said this will be the last Fourth friday of the month milonga . I would like to and will endeavor to continue the third friday, that is up to the community though. I still remain passionate about the music and the dance and would hope that having just one milonga
will help it to remain open, again people vote with their feet so we will see.
I want to thank the devoted who have always been there and the community as a whole for the years of pleasure.I wish I could be more supportive of the other milongas but Fri. night has been my only free night for years. Sat. night is my night with my son and I would give that up for nothing on earth.
I hope to see some of you on this last Friday, and thank you for years of pleasure. Again, I will continue the third fri.milonga for the time being.
There may be rare times with teachers in town that we will have a milonga if the timing is right and there is a need for one.

Dear tango dancers:

4th Saturday of the month is upon us yet again: Tango Fusion with DJ Paul Lohman at the Social Dance Studio! 

Details:

Where: Social Dance Studio @  3742 23rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, 55407

When: Saturday November 23, 9 pm till 1 pm (9 till 9.30 a mini lesson by Sabine)

What: A milonga, THE Argentine tango social dance event! Dress code? We all do not mind get just a       tiny bit more dressed up than our usual daily outfits, be yourselves with a little sparkle.

Who: Your host for the evening is Sabine Ibes and your DJ will be Paul Lohman

Cost: $ 10 for milonga ( $ 15 for lesson and milonga) and $ 5 with a valid student id

Every month we have a great time on the dance floor, because of YOU! And a little bit because of the food, the great dance floor, the followers tandas, the excellent mix of music. 

Do come and join us again, and if you are a first timer: the mini lesson is a great way to get to know some other social dancers or to introduce a friend, colleague, family member or neighbor to the tango.

I received more good comments about this place than any other, including someone who said it was her favorite milonga EVER! I leave Wed for my annual excursion to Buenos Aires!  Classes will continue while I am in Buenos Aires under the tutelage of Augusto and his assistants, except for the Advanced class. Come and check out his great lessons - packed with information.

Puro tango is back tomorrow.
Music begins at 9;30. Of late Friday has turned out to be sparsely attended, with so many milongas competing and Saturday night being a more convenient night . To keep going we need a few more feet on the floor It could be that there is not enough support but i still love the music and seeing you all and would love to keep going. It is a tough night but it has been here for, maybe fifteen years and I would love to continue. that said I hope to see you Friday.
Light snacks and beverage are on hand and you are welcome to contribute.

Thanks to everyone that helped and attended the TSOM 2nd Saturday milonga, featuring Alejandro Ziegler Tango Quartet, brought to you by our co-sponsors, Bataclan Tango. Over 122 enjoyed the Red Carpet affair!

Andrea DuCane instructed the lesson participants in a delightful milonga step with interesting variations. Paul Lohman spun great tunes in between the live music sets. Thanks also to Scott Chase for taking care of the gate, Connie Stack, Liliana Imwinkelried for helping with the food, along with the many of you that contributed to the wonderful treats! Congratulations to our door prize winners!

Thanks to Alejandro Ziegler Tango Quartet for sharing their musical talents with our community, and to our co-sponsors, Bataclan Tango for bringing them, and their help with the milonga.  Thanks to Ken and the Sokol for sharing their beautiful venue with us, and to those that helped set up, and also those that helped clean up afterwards, or helped in other ways to make this event happen.

This time we are taking a risk to create a Milonga combing a beautiful venue with soul stirring music.  The TSoM Board wants to reward your strong support this past year.  We have gone well beyond our usual budget limits to book the beautiful Sokol hall.  A stroke of scheduling luck allows TSoM to co-host the soul stirring Ziegler Quartet at this outstanding venue.

[TSOM-Announce] TSoM 2nd Saturday "Red Carpet" Milonga Featuring Alejandro Ziegler Tango Quartet November 9th, 2013

Our co-sponsor, Bataclan Tango, presents the Alejandro Ziegler Tango Quartet! Come out on the red carpet and dance to the live performance from this world class tango band at the beautiful and historic Sokol  Hall, or just listen to a great performance! Dress up is optional. We'll have "ties" available for the guys and "bracelets" for the gals.

$20 for TSoM members, $25 for non-members;

Free lesson at 8:30p.m. by Andrea DuCane will feature simple but fun milonga step.  She will add variations for the more advanced dancer. Something for everyone!

Hello everybody,

Teresa will be assisting me in this classes starting on thursday.

I would like to work on footwork and ochos since is a topic that I am also working with my students at the University and I would like everybody to be tuned back on those fundamentals.

This will be a great class for the ones who were off for so long and are trying to get momentum to get back to class.

I will need your confirmation of attendance as we used to do in the past.

Please send an email letting me know if you are coming and after I get enough confirmations I will confirm back to you before class to make sure is happening.

If I don't get enough responses for this thursday class will be canceled again and we'll try to make it happen next thursday.

Coast of 3 thursdays this month $45 or $20 by class.

Hello twin cities tango dancers,

In the month of November we at "tango and I"  have a lot to offer. Even though it will be a shorter month than usual: Thanksgiving week the Social Dance Studio will close for classes on Wednesday the 27th, and for the practica Saturday the 30th.  If you want, you can make up for some tango time with us when we travel to Rochester on Saturday November 16 for 2 workshops:

Murat and Michelle Erdemsel

I would like to personally thank everybody who attended the workshops with Murat and Michelle Erdemsel. Both of them had a great time with all of you and enjoyed teaching here again. They received some wonderful feedback about the presentation, the classes, their wonderful demonstration and their willingness to share all the ins and outs about social dancing. Their great sense of humor made everybody feel comfortable in class.  Thanks to everybody that signed up in advance as well: keep doing that! It is so helpful for us organizers to know how many people are attending.

For our 6.30 absolute beginner classes you can come in and refresh all your tango foundations. Bring a friend or family member, a neighbor or a colleague, somebody that you have wanted to introduce to Argentine Tango. The very first lesson is free!

7.30 All level class:

We start these classes with all the levels combined: working on tango technique and creating a self awareness of movement that is needed to execute Argentine Tango vocabulary and musicality.

Level A:

the Molinette

Week 1: the molinette, what the heck is it?
Week 2: entrance and exit the molinette
Week 3: playing with the molinette

Level B:

the Molinette /giros #2

Week 1: turn to the right with sacada
Week 2: the lapiz ( leader embellishments)
Week 3: the followers planeo

8.30 Intermediate/Advanced class:

Bringing the music into your dancing! Following through on the previous lessons: how to speed up a turn or slow it down. How to exit it gracefully by adding musical interpretations by follower and leader. (and how to react to either of those!)

Next month: milonga AND valz : that is right, both of them in one month!
