Dear Tango friends,

 

Don’t google it! The images may be too disturbing…

I’m writing today in hopes of alerting you to a very unsettling reality:  We have tango unicorns in our midst.

Oh the shock!  Oh the horror!

I’m not talking about the rather disturbing image below. Anyone could see that those are Mythical Rango Rhinoceri! Their approach to line-of-dance is the stuff of legend… but I digress.

 

No, today I’m here to address the pervasive problem of Tango Unicorns. They are all around us! (Don’t tell my therapist...)

These creatures were once thought extinct, others thought them mythical. I know better. They are here! You just can’t see them!

 

There is only one way to know for sure if you are near one:

Check their registration.  You don’t need a badge to do this.  Just come right out and ask! Like this:

[TSOM-Announce] Puro Tango this Friday night at Four Seasons Dance Studio

Micheal is back this month hosting a tango dance party this Friday night at our studio. Please join us for 3 hours of dancing and socializing with the tango community. 

If you are driving and parking close to out studio, please note that the parking meters have changed and we are now being charged on Saturdays and Sundays as well as the weekdays. The aloted time to pay is also changed to 10pm every day. We have long enjoyed free parking on the weekends and after 8pm, but the city of Minneapolis has decided to collect more revenue and has targeted the area on our block and the neighborhood. It's still a minimal fee but please take care to plug the meters correctly as the area is watched and tickets are distributed well into the night. There is a convenient phone app that you can use if you don't like to fumble with quarters or a credit card at the pay stations:

Sabine Shares My non-Zins exposed This past week I've had a lovely experience with my childhood friend Imke. We've known each other for over 45 years. Friends since Kindergarten, secret clubs and mysterious gatherings, all through grade-school. Both her and I had the eighties style perms, complete with pink leggings, loads of blue eyeshadow, dancing disco like it was going out of style. Sabine and Imke on a camping trip 1983 We were there when we met our future husbands, making up excuses to our parents to secretly meet late at night. Maids of honor at each others weddings, and so many bursts of crying laughter,  I mean the " I peed my pants laughing" over a misplaced comment,  silly pranks and jokes that are only funny to us. Our children shudder to go out in public with us present, afraid of being embarrassed by their mothers making a spectacle of themselves.   It is only for her that I have sinned: I went on a Zumba cruise….. yes, with Salsa music, Bachata, Merenque. Loud colors, high energy. Picture a big ship, filled with people that absolutely adore to move, read: shaking their hips and shoulders, whenever a hint of bass fills the rooms; In line for the bathroom, while dining, on the beach, the hallways. Imke is, and has been for years, a Zumba instructor (Zin) Perfect excuse for the both of us to meet halfway across the world. Since she lives in the Netherlands, and I live here in Minneapolis.  I did my best in the classes that she picked out for me. Imke did her best not to burst out in fits of laughter while I shook and jumped.    I think I should bring her to a tango festival next, the energy is very different and yet, very much the same: people gather for the love of movement, music and community. Dancing brings us closer together. And after this crazy adventure it brought me closer still to my Zin friend. I have a Zumba outfit to prove it! April at Tango & I REMEMBER that you can take the beginner class more than once a week! The same class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Flying Pig Studio. We are working on Sacadas - a displacement, in the All Level class this month. It could change the direction you are moving in, it could change the amount of pivot given to the follower and leader. It could signal adornments. So many options that follow a great sacada!  We cannot wait to get started. In the Intermediate class we will elaborate on the sacada. Pour it into the dance so it becomes a fluid movement that is intermixed with others seamlessly. Beginner classes CURRICULUM, sure right here Mondays 11 am Wednesdays 6.30 pm Saturdays 10 am ALL level classes Wednesdays at 7.30 pm  Curriculum for Level A and B it's all right here We are working on Sacadas Intermediate/Advanced  Wednesdays at 8.30   More Sacadas to explore All classes are held at the Flying Pig Studio Practica EACH Saturday from 11 - 2 Private lessons?
