Susana Miller is Coming to Minnesota!! SUSANA MILLER legendary original teacher of milonguero style tango, was named one of the 4 most influential people in social tango by Clarin, the biggest daily newspaper of Buenos Aires.

She was the first to decode how the milongueros and milongueras danced - what they did and how they did it--and to present it for others to learn. This compact rhythmic tango from the crowded dance floors of Buenos Aires is not for show. Rather, it is for the private pleasure of the dancers themselves - a subtle and secret corporal conversation.

Susana's fame has come in part from her multiple associations with renowned milongueros, who chose to work with her because of her dedication to preserving and promoting their way of dancing. These included Cacho Dante, Luisito, Eduardo Aguirre, Tete, Ruben Harymbat, and Ricardo Vidort. She was also the owner and operator of one of the most popular milonga venues in Buenos Aires, El Beso, and has led a highly successul tango academy in Buenos Aires for more than 20 years. She has taught in every major city across Europe and North America.

She will be here from May 22 to May 29th.  Her workshops are Saturday, May 23rd and 24th.  Friday May 22 she will teach a lesson before the Mala Yunta milonga. We will also have a special milonga on Saturday, May 23rd.  Privates are available. Here is the link to more information, although the times may change:  mndance.com/SusanaMillerworkshop.html  She will also DJ the milongas.

Are you available to host some out of town visitors?  We have people coming from all over...  It's going to be quite a weekend!

SATURDAY April 25 CLASSES ARE CANCELLED.  I will be teaching workshops in Thunder Bay, Canada all weekend.

Tuesday Party: Tuesday at 9, after the lessons. Always a good time, but especially lately!  You may get a chance to hang out with Manuel Garcia, and maybe even Andres Gross!

Thunder Bay tango workshops are this weekend! I am teaching a full schedule of workshops Saturday and Sunday.  Friday evening we are doing a peformance, and a presentation on culture and history  If you should find yourself up there (it is really beautiful) please stop in.

Upcoming:
Manuel Garcia is playing for the Rochester Tango Community TSOR for their monthly milonga May 2nd. Roadtrip? Yes!  We are organizing, let me know if you want a seat on the "caravan" Stay tuned for other performances, but definitely come by the Tuesday party and hear him.

Musings:  It's all about the music. I dance many styles of dance, all are fun, but tango has a special connection to the music which I never encountered in any other dance. When you ask an Argentine if he knows tango he will say "Yes!" But if you ask him if he dances tango, it is more likely that he will say he never learned.  A true tango dancer thinks of the music before the dance when s/he hears the word tango. So, if you are learning tango, please learn as much about the music as you can!  It is impossible to interpret tango with dance moves if you don't understand and appreciate the music. We have a rare opportunity now to listen to live tango music by an expert, of a caliber that we will not likely find again here. Do yourself a favor and get to as many of  Andres Gross and/or Manuel Garcia's events as possible!  Andres is available for lessons.  Contact him at art59ar@ yahoo.com.ar

[TSOM-Announce] Teacher Taster this coming Monday 27 April

Hello tango friends,

Our teacher taster series continues….. Next Monday night 27 April with Gretchen and Dave.

Please forget that I mistakenly sent the notice out for last Monday!  Forgotten? Great…

Here’s the notice for this coming Monday J

The Tango Desperadoes Practica offers occasional mini-lessons from teachers gleaned from our talented tango community.

As many of you may know, and as I am beginning to discover, Dave Rost and Gretchen Larson are excellent teachers and encyclopaedic reservoirs of tango knowledge.  They have kindly agreed to offer us a mini-lesson on improvisation and collaboration. This will start on or about 7:45 to 8ish for 30 minutes of mind expansion, then will immediately be followed by our usual open, unguided practica.

Dave and Gretchen are remarkably understated about their tango knowledge, but I can attest to their excellent teaching insights and generous delivery of information.  Please come and enjoy their offering.

No extra charge -- Lots of extra skills!

Happy dancing!

Scott, Michael, and your friends at Desperados

[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: Last 2 weeks @ SDS, now what?

Tango Fusion and WCS - our very last TANGO FUSION at SDS
Tango Bootcamp
View this email in your browser

Last 2 weeks at the Social Dance Studio

And a new adventure at Dance Life Ballroom!

I came to know Joy Davina when she was the proud owner of her new studio at 6015 Lyndale Ave in Minneapolis around the year 2002. I was very happy to be dancing in my own neighborhood, 3 blocks away! It was here that I discovered Argentine Tango!  But it wasn't until 3 years later that I started teaching this beautiful dance, in Joy her second studio on Bryant, also in Minneapolis. It has been such a pleasure to work with Joy, to see the studio blossom to what it is today, and it is with such sadness to have to say goodbye to a dance studio that has inspired so many people to move and grow by dancing.
The silver lining is that I get to go back to my "old stomping grounds" : the studio that I took my very first tango steps; 6015 Lyndale Ave, now the home of Dance Life Ballroom. I am so very happy to make this move with Diana Devi, who has been my partner in tango crime for a couple of years now!
The group classes will be held on the same evening: Wednesday evening, and we are adding a new beginner class on Saturday morning followed by our weekly practica. And our 4th Saturday of the month milonga, Tango Fusion, will also remain the same!
Dance Life Ballroom, http://www.dancelifeballroom.com
Wednesday evening: 6.30 Beginner classes
                                   7.30 All Level classes ( Level A and B)
8.30 Intermediate and advanced level classes
Saturday 10 - 11 Beginner classes
                11 - 1 Practica
Every fourth Saturday : Tango Fusion Milonga plus class.

Check out the website for directions and information on prices.

Sabine and Diana are available for private lessons as well. Pick a time that works for you and shoot them an email. Here is the link to their calendar
