June Edition

For the month of June!

Tango FUNdamentals 7pm we will be working on ochos and their infinite possibilities.

Developing Your Tango Body series 8pm .  We are going to look at the relationship (and how we use)  of our feet with the rest of our body in order to create the perfect boleo, gancho, etc..

In last months edition of the newsletter, we starting looking at the anatomy of the foot.  This month I would like to point out a few exercises for your feet AND let you know that we will be working the feet (and the center) in the relationship to our turning bodies!

MORE INFO ABOUT THE FEET !

As you can see from the picture, there are some very simple exercises that you can perform to strengthen the muscles in your feet.

Does the second exercise look familiar to anyone?  How does this relate to tango?  Over the next month we will focus on how we use our feet in turns, weight transitions etc.

Oscar Casas is returning to Minnesota!   We will have a full spate of workshops, as well as performances, parties and milongas!
Oscar was born in Parque Patricios, a well-known tango barrio in Buenos Aires. His parents were avid tango dancers, and, in the 1950's and '60's, they organized three different milongas per week, which regularly drew in 400-500 dancers. Oscar was very much influenced by his father, both by osmosis and discussion. When he eventually decided to take up the dance seriously, he already had a background and base that was the envy of many.

Oscar has a distinct style both in his dance and his teaching. He is very milonguero, and is highly respected by the old guard in the milongas of BA. He also is extremely popular with his students, who are impressed by his teaching style. He teaches with energy and humor, emphasizing concepts, specializing in improvisation, always interpreting the music and respecting the character of the different orchestras. He is especially interested in the dynamics and cadencia of the dance. Everything he teaches is applicable to crowded milongas.

Here's a  favorite video: youtu.be/ox29Qu4y0nU

The TSoM dance is on Saturday June 10, I will be the DJ, and Oscar and I will do a performance.

[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: Discover your poetry in tango

Poetic tango movement

Musicality workshops.

3 workshops in one day

This Saturday May 20

Hosted by Paul Lohman ( DJ Pablo) and Sabine Ibes

10 am       "That IS the Question"

Listening to music evokes many emotions and feelings.  Much the same as when we listen to good poetry.  The famous poets know how to draw in the listener, and YOU as a dancer can learn to do the same for your partner.  Listening goes a long way to establishing a tango connection, and interesting conversation in the dance.  Paul and Sabine will tap in to some tools that you can find in the music.

11.30 am " I am not sure This goes with That"
When a step turns into a movement, and is followed up by yet another tango sequence, it sure can be a lovely aspect of the tango dance. Or is it?   Some rhythmic movements go well with others, but can you use them when a lyrical piece of tango music is playing?   Playing with quality tango movements to the quality of the music.

1 pm         "Now I am getting it"
And then there are the hidden, but not so hidden gems in the Argentine Tango Music. Being very specific where they appear in the songs.  Letting the poet in you know when to come out and play. Accurate movements and articulate footwork are the commas and periods of our tango poetry and make or break a good tanda.

All 3 workshops $55
Each class $20
RSVP   Sabine@tangoandi.com

Classes are held at Dance Life Ballroom in Minneapolis
(no class credits, please pay cash or checks)

Get a head start!

Listen to some of the music that Paul will be playing this Saturday!    On Spotify..... either follow below link, or, when you are Spotify regular, follow Paul Lohman
