[TSOM-Announce] Tonight only!! Rebecca Abas will teach at Four Seasosn Dance Studio

Due to some conflicts with Micheal and Andrea. Rebecca will fill in tonight and teach the level 2 Tango class at Four Seasons (Micheal is still recovering from a difficult procedure, please send him some pleasant thoughts for a speedy recovery!)

Rebecca has decided to revisit and reinterpret some of the great material we got from Luis and Daniella when they were in town. Specifically the ideas around rhythm in the dance and also some very simple excercises illustrating the embrace and connection.

Welcome to all our Tuesday regulars and for those of you that are new, come try out our level 2 in our warm and friendly studio!!

(personal note to Marge: thank you for all of your hard work fiding and fixing the glitch that inerupted the TSOM announce option!! So many of us utilize this wonderful message board to our community of dancers and we appreciate your skills at navigating this complex area!! You are awesome!!)

October news letter

Milonga-Milonga-Milonga-Milonga-Milonga

Tango and I presents milonga month at the Social Dance Studio. Milonga is such a fast moving dance, the music moves like lightning and so should the feet. Doing that by your self is one thing, but leading and/or following those fast feet is another.
The word milonga means 2 things in Argentine Tango. The first is a name for the social dance that Argentine Tango dancers meet at. And a second meaning is the type of tango music that is played. That can be easily heard, or is it? A milonga is not "just a fast danced tango".  We will go in and explore a lot in the 7.30 and 8.30 class on Wednesday evenings.

Wednesday evening at the Social Dance Studio

6.30 Our beginner series; bring your friends, bring your shoes and a smile, no partner needed. Every month we start fresh with our beginner series, and the series will last 2 months! What will you learn? check out our curriculum

7.30 Our All level series
Milonga 1 What do you hear in the music? How can I convey my faster movements to this dance? How can follow these quick steps? What are the possibilities and why is it so different from a tango or valz?    These are progressive series for the whole month but also for the 7.30 AND 8.30 class.

8.30 Our Intermediate/advances series:
Milonga 2 Grounding the movement, combining the steps, going from fast to slow and back again. Dancing even smaller than I thought I could dance? Recognizing the music? Milonga is an experience on the dance floor, and so much fun fun fun!!!
These are progressive series, it is be very beneficial for you to also take the 7.30 class!

[TSOM-Announce] Pablo Ziegler

I haven't seen much about this so i thought i would send something out.

On friday night at the Dakota Pablo Ziegler will be performing with his quartet. His bandoneon player is truly one of the best. Pablo was one of the members of Piazzolla's New Tango Quintet and the last member still playing.
The venue is intimate, the sound great and i'm sure if you are so moved you could dance.

Lowell Picket, the owner, went out on a limb to get him so lets show up.

September 27th is the 4th Saturday of the month which means (drum roll please) ……  it is time for Tango Fusion.

I am your hostess for the evening with Paul Lohman as our DJ.   Its fall and there is not better time to stay inside to dance right?

The dancing will be great, the atmosphere enchanting with a fusion of tango music, light snacks,  plenty of parking and a followers tanda.  Bring a snack or byow to share if you wish   Since the weather is a bit cooler I will have my chocolates and maybe some baked goodies!

Social Dance Studio is located 3742  23rd Ave S, Minneapolis MN 55407

Lesson from 9-9:30 mini lesson by Diana Devi

Time 9:30 till 1

Cost $10 ($5 students)

Please come join us, it will be a fun party, great class and enjoyable for all!

Now for the other piece of the announcement.   On October 4th I will be teaching a class for tango dancers using gyrotonic principles   So what is gyrotonic you say.  It is an exercise system that is based on spiral movements in the body, in order to move in this way you need to be able to build strength in your core ( and we will define core for our purposes) so we can move more easily from our center and create beautiful tango movements.  More to come!

When: October 4, 2014

Time: 1-3pm  (followed by practica at Tapestry from 3-5 pm  ( SDS is booked for a private event))

Cost for workshop: $20

Please come join me!

Thanks,

Diana

[TSOM-Announce] Milonga Mala Yunta - Special event - Sept 26 at 9:30pm

Dear tangueros,
If you were not at Saturday's tsom milonga you may not know about our special Milonga para Helenita that we are organizing for our Milonga Mala Yunta on Sept 26th.
Helenita is an 11 months old baby girl from Argentina.  She was diagnosed with "osteopretosis", a rare genetic and degenerative disease.  It is not "osteoporosis" that I spelled wrong...  :)  The disease that Helenita suffers makes her bones grow compact, generating pressure in all the nerves of her body.  So is suffers from pain, vision and hearing loss.  Needless to say that her life is in danger.  There is only one chance for her cure, and it's a bone marrow transplant done at the UofM Amplatz Children Hospital.
The treatment is long and expensive.  There has been a huge campaign in Argentina and they raised money for the transplant plus the first 100 days post transplant treatment.  But there is still a long way to go.  Doctors said that the post transplant treatment is at least 6 months long.
She is already in MN, and just had the transplant performed and is recovering, but the hardest path is yet to come.

We are donating all the proceeds for our September Mala Yunta to her medical fund, so if you come for our milonga on Friday, Sept 26th, you will be helping her directly.
To find out more about her, and how to help her, please visit: http://www.gofundme.com/dd57po

And also visit our website http://www.bataclantango.org
It has been updated with Milonga para Helenita information, which I'm also including here:
Friday, Sept 26 - 9:30pm - Milonga Mala Yunta supports Helenita
$10 general, $5 students
DJ: Peter Truran
4 Seasons Dance Studio
*** all proceeds go to Helenita's medical fund ***
 Snacks:
Sandwiches de miga (if you want toasted you need to contribute with $.50)
famous Marisa's "Pasta Frola"
Merengues con dulce de leche

the "tips" that you usually give for snacks and drinks will all go to Helenita, so be generous!

Raffle: for only $1 per ticket, you may be the lucky winner of:
1st prize: one admission to the Alejandro Ziegler Milonga that will be on October 18th at Four Seasons)
2nd prize: one admission to the Alejandro Ziegler Concert that will take place on Oct 19th at the JCC.

Please help us to spread the word!!! and come to have fun!!!  even if you don't dance tango you'll have fun!

Gracias!
Tamara
