September class info

This month is filled with new tango info!!!

The beginning of a new tango school year, refresh your knowledge about how to move, how to get into touch with feeling great while you dance with your partner.
At Tango & I we make it our business to keep the classes fun, packed with useful tango info that you will be able to remember and recall for the rest of your tango career.

Argentine Tango Classics

These classes are designed for the absolute beginners, the beginners, and the students who wish to learn to switch roles.

8 week series, starting fresh every month
Wednesday evenings    6.30 till 7.30
Saturday      mornings   10 till 11

Miss a class? Not a problem: make it up the same week either on Saturday or Wednesday!

Foundations A & B

When you complete the Argentine tango classics you will automatically move to Foundation A (the intermediate beginners) where you will learn to get comfortable on the social dance floor. You want to dream even bigger? Foundation B (the advanced beginners)  is right around the corner!
This month Foundation A : The O
cho Cortado, a versatile movement that should be present in anybodies tango tool box!
Foundation B:  "stop that move"  Sandwiches are a tasty treat, even when done by tango feet!

Wednesday evenings 7.30 till 8.30 4 week series.

Intermediate & Advanced

Dig in your heels, body mind and soul for some adventurous movement and thought. Experience the music in a different way, deepen your tango knowledge on a different level!
Do you find yourself repeating the same pattern? Don't know what to do after a sandwich? We do! A boleo would be the right relish on that sandwich, or how about changing a direction completely? How does the follower know to do a boleo? What is the timing for boleo? Find out!

Wednesday evenings 8.30 till 9.30 4 week series.

Meet Marcy Muldoon

Marcy, together with Avery and Megan, is part of the "tango fast track" program at Tango and I. They attend and assist  as lead or follow in  every class and practica.             We have known Marcy for quite some time now, she has been such a tremendous treasure for Tango and I. Always willing to lend a hand, even when her wrist was broken, she was brave enough to come and help out!  We adore her optimism and positive spirit. Many students have complimented her kindness and her helpful attitude in the classroom!
We asked Marcy how she got started in Tango;

I started dancing Argentine tango 13-14 years ago. It didn't seduce me immediately however, as it was foreign to my background in ballroom dance. It was, frankly- work. I practiced tango walk while walking my dog, in grocery stores and parking lots. My refrigerator was my partner as I practiced my ochos.  Then one day, that magical dance- effortless, infinitely connected and relaxed- happened, and I was hooked.Like a lab rat running a maze chasing cheese, I hungrily pursued tango magic with lessons, practice and travel. I still do, and I plan to continue for as long as I am able. My work as a nurse in the army reserves taught me the benefit of perseverance and delayed gratification. Tango is well worth this effort.

Would you like to learn more about the Tango Fast Track? Come talk to Sabine
Tango Bootcamp!!!

Help us plant the tango seedlings by spreading the word about our upcoming tango bootcamp. September 26 & 27 from 11 till 1.
Maybe YOU want to learn dig in your heels once more, OR learn the other role in tango? Here you will be able to immerse yourself: learn in 4 hours what we would normally cover in 8 weeks!!!!

Click HERE for all the info you need, print  a flyer, hand some out, place them at your favorite coffeeshop, bring them to work, neighborhood meetings or the state FAIR.

Every Saturday , 10 am we host a practica at Dance Life Ballroom. When you really want to learn something new, add something to your movement you need to PRACTICE.
  • Easy going environment
  • Every Saturday morning at 10 am
  • Always a teacher or assistant available
  • Consistent practice works!
  • Any level welcome
  • Meet new people!
Special Workshop for Tango Technique by Sabine Ibes

Guillermo Cerneaz, tango teacher extraordinaire coming to Minneapolis!

November 20 -23 Mark your agendas

Diana Devi has invited Guillermo back to the twin cities by popular demand! Innovative, funny and kind tango teacher. Not to be missed!
Musicality in tango
Murat Erdemsel has been a tango teacher and artist for most of his adult life. He has found creative ways to explain many things tango. Including Musicality. HERE is a link to a video ( very funny and witty!!) where he talks about the "roundness" (booba) and "sharpness" (kiki) of a song by Lucio Demare.  If you want to skip the intro, start watching at 1.45 to fully understand the idea.

Upcoming: KrungThep milonga is Wed, September 2nd! We have had a great turnout lately - let's see if we can keep it going! 7:00PM, 2523 Nicollet Ave S.  Then, come and dance with us at the State Fair, mornings on Sept. 3rd and Sept 7th.  Free ticket!

Musings:  I was thinking recently that my slogan should be "We sell fun." Or maybe, "We sell connection". Or "We Sell Hugs". I don't know, but I know that being in the tango community means that you have something to do almost every night of the week, with a diverse selection of friends, and a diverse selection of venues. You can choose to dress up or not, stay for a long time or leave early, dance a lot, talk a lot, or sit and quietly watch and listen to the music. Some milongas have themes, or alternative music, or small floors, but if you hate themes, want traditional music, and need room, there is a milonga the next night that's got what you want. And even if you hate the theme, the music, the floor, the parking, and the time - you come, and encourage your friends to come, because the energy of a room full of friends is the best gift in the world. It's fun. It's connected. And someone will give you a hug. What a wonderful gift that is.
