Classes this Week: Tuesday and Saturday we'll work on ocho cortados. Elegant, useful, fun, and made for any dancefloor.  You must have this in your dance. In Intermediate - can we insert a secada into the ocho cortado? Maybe a boleo? In any case - it will be leadable, and easy to follow. BIG NEWS: Thursday classes are moving! We are moving the Advanced class to Four Seasons Dance Studio, 1637 Hennepin Ave.  Long a central place for tango in the Twin Cities, they are again showing their huge commitment to the tango community by hosting my Advanced Thursday class. Are you ready for this challenging class? It takes dedication! It starts this Thursday at 8PM!

Tuesday Party:  Tuesday at 9, after the lessons. We eat, we dance, we talk. We get to know each other and delight in the tango and the community.  YOU'LL LOVE IT!

Wednesday, April 1st: First Wednesday means it's time for the Krung Thep milonga! A lovely milonga, but only comes once a month, so don't miss it! Come early for dinner, so that you can get a good table and dance as much as you want. Great service, great food, wood floor. Music starts at 7:00. Easy, free parking in the lot across the street or on the street. $5, and now - free for students! Easy busride from the U of M - no excuses! As requested - early night milonga for a "school night" 2523 Nicollet Ave S, 55404  www.krungthepthaicuisine.org/

This Weekend:  Friday Blues? We are planning a Blues Outing with the blues community.  Stay tuned for more details. Milonga in Rochester!  This weekend I will teach and DJ at the Rochester Tango Society milonga, April 4th.  I will be available for privates all day, but the slots are filling up fast.  Contact me if you want to schedule.

Private Lessons: Scheduling every day. Call or email at lois@mndance.com

Upcoming: I am teaching workshops in
Thunder Bay, Canada April 24th to 26th. They have a full weekend of events planned! Susana Miller, the renowned tango teacher, is coming for extensive workshops the last weekend in May. Last time that I brought her to the Twin Cities was transformative. Do not miss it!

Musings:  I was surprised to read a posting by a European woman who says she doesn't like going to milongas where people are encouraged to dance with everybody, including newcomers. She is afraid she will be noticed as only dancing with certain people, and feel encouraged to dance with someone she didn't expressly choose.  Well - that's not how we roll here.  I will ALWAYS encourage people to dance with everyone, because that is fun. Interesting. Challenging. Rewarding. And it is one of the reasons one of my people recently said to me, after a particularly fun party, "Thanks, Lois. You brought fun back into my life".  And that, my friends, is Tango.

April classes at Tango and I

Gearing up for another great month with Tango and I, where we keep our curriculum fresh and even though all of the movements are nothing new, in fact they are as old as the hills, we understand that they are new to you! Diana and I, Sabine,  have been teaching together for a couple of years and we are always preparing the classes well in advance with the student in mind.    Every Wednesday evening at SDS.

6.30 Beginner class A & B
Class A and B will start the classes together and split up in 2 groups. Group A are the absolute beginners and B have been around for one month and move on to bigger and better things in tango. You will learn the 8 count basic step with forward and backward ochos and a molinette. What is that, you ask? Well they are only THE most important movements in Argentine Tango!  You will learn to improvise and play with the music, and a couple of tango etiquette rules as well so you will be able to hit the dance floor sooner rather than later. You will learn to lead and to follow.

Wednesday night April 1 ( no joke) instead of the 7.30 and 8.30 class we will host a practica from 7.30 till 9.30 Don't worry, there are 5 wednesdays in April, we will make up for it! 6.30 class will be as usual taught by Ann Person and Marcy Muldoon
Cost for the practica will be $ 7 p.p.  ( no class credit )

7.30 All Level class A & B
Level A - the close embrace classics
Level B - Technical tournament
for more detail please check out our curriculum

8
.30 Intermediate and Advanced level class
Old vocabulary with a twist: You think you know all of the vocabulary? There are many new movements that you can add, or maybe you can leave just one little thing away resulting in a fresh new movement. And as a follower, how can you react to something that you have never danced before? How will you understand it?  Come and play with us!

All our classes are being held at the Social Dance Studio until the end of April!  Only one more month to use all of your SDS credit!

This month, April 25, will be the very last Tango Fusion at Social Dance Studio - not to worry, read the next column about our move!

But because it is the last one at SDS we are planning something special: Starting at 7 o'clock with DJ Hieu till 9 West Coast Swing, from 9 till 10 we will mix WCS with Argentine Tango and DJ Geoffrey Reiff will then take the helm and drive us until the sun goes down!

Make sure to mark your calendars!  April 25  PARTY AT SDS
Sabine has been in Buenos Aires for the month of March, every day there are over 50 milongas and classes available to her. She has taken many private lessons with Gaston Torelli and Melina Brufman, excellent and world renowned Argentine Tango teachers. She also takes many group classes and practicas. And She has been to a milonga every night of this month, most of the time 2 a night! ( According to her, she took only 2 nights off!)
Not only is she dancing the nights away, she is having a wonderful time with the Minnesota group that has joined her. They too are taking many classes, some are organized by CITA, some by local teachers. They also went on a city tour and had dinners out at historic places like the restaurant in the pictures above: Los Laureles in Barracas, A Restaurant that has hosted Argentine Tango over 100 years!!!
A weekend of dance and classes at the Social Dance Studio, celebrating their 15th year!

You have heard right: Tango and I is moving, The month of May we will start at a new studio: Dance Life Ballroom in Minneapolis. Dance Life Ballroom is not only a new setting for us but also for the owner Shinya McHenry. Shinya opened the doors of Dance Life in October of 2013! He is not new to owning a dance studio and certainly not new to dance. For the 30 years that he has been dancing he also owned a studio in St.Paul.

"Moving and music is what I've done all my life," said McHenry, a member of the Richfield High School Class of 1980, who came of age when disco reigned.

The Wednesday evening classes will continue as per usual!
6.30 Beginners A & B
7.30 All Level A & B
8.30 Intermediate and Advanced

We will add a new Beginner class on Saturday from 10 till 11 followed by the practica from 11 till 1

And our Tango Fusion Milonga will also be held every fourth Saturday at Dance Life

We will kick of our move with a BOOTCAMP the first weekend in May!

Classes this Week: We have been doing some very challenging work lately, focusing on boleos, secadas and ganchos.  They are all related, and all come down to the correct technique required in all of your tango movements.  If you are standing, walking, moving, embracing and connecting correctly, all these things will happen naturally and beautifully.  If not, it could be a symptom of larger problems in your dance that you are covering up.  You can dance for years, and have a lot of fun, but if you really want to catch all of the best tango has to offer, it is important to master these. Sometimes things you learn in early classes need to be tweaked as you progress in your dance. Advanced lessons - look for some important news coming up!

Duluth Tango Workshop weekend, March 28th and 29th. Sat: 2:00 Beginners - Fundamentals of Argentine Tango: The elegant walk, the embrace, the cruzada, moving as one, how to listen and interpret the music
3:45 Advanced Beginners - Ochos, getting into them and getting out of them, making them beautiful and musical.
Sun: 12:30 - Turns and More Turns, including one of the most versatile moves in tango, the molinete. Plus many options to make each move more interesting, more musical and more delightful.
2:15 - More Advanced Moves and Concepts, embellishments, secadas and ganchos.
Classes are $20 each, or $70 for the weekend.  Full time students are half price.
Classes held at 819 North 18th Ave E. Duluth, Minnesota 55812.

Saturday Rock and Roll, Canceled this week:  because of the Duluth Tango Workshops.

Tuesday Party  You've heard how fun it is - stop by and check it out. Tuesday at 9, after the lessons. We always have a good time!

Private Lessons: Don't let those problems fester - come and get them fixed before they become ingrained. One student who just started said that partners saw an immediate difference. Call or email to schedule.

I am teaching in Rochester on April 4th (first weekend), Thunder Bay tango workshops are the 4th weekend of April, Susana Miller is coming to teach workshops in May.  We have had to move her workshops to the fourth weekend of May.
