Tango & I needs you to come out and dance!
Most of us have been hunkered down, stayed 3 feet away from other folks, let alone hugged and danced! The good news is that many of us have had "the" shot!  We all learned how we could and should  be dancing in a safe environment, keeping each other healthy and very happy, by looking into each others eyes and seeing the smile wrinkles appear.
We need to start somewhere: a tango practica is a safe place to get your feet wet again. Here is how it will go:
  • THIS SATURDAY MAY 1 - 10am to noon and every Saturday after that.
  • You show up!
  • If you show up with a partner; GREAT
  • if you show up alone; GREAT  ( we will provide you with solo tango exercises, OR you could choose a partner and work together without an embrace/you are provided with exercises, OR you choose a partner and dance in an embrace when you both have received the vaccine!)
  • we are limited to 20 people - first come first serve and after that we will rotate
  • $ 10 entry ( or use your registration cards 2019!!)
  • ALL AT THE FLYING PIG STUDIO
  • Mini privates available * 15 minutes, $20 *
  • Masks required, at the Flying Pig Studio we adhere to the guidelines set forth by the State of Minnesota and CDC
  • Questions? email Sabine

Hello from Megan and Avery
We have missed tango immensely.
Everyone always comments that we
must be practicing our tango all the time. Well, the truth is that Megan was about 2 months pregnant when Tango & I had it's last lesson with  La Juan D'Arienzo orchestra, back in March 2020.
October 3rd we added Desmond Montague to our family. We call him Monty. Big sister Esme is delighted to have "her" baby.
We look forward to the future when life goes back to normal and our tango community can dance
again!        We can't wait to hug you!
Megan and Avery, Esme and Monty

Hello from Ann
Ann's world has been turned upside down during the tango hiatus.  She fell in love with a wonderfully kind and fun man and is now engaged!
Ann and Mat plan to marry when their family and friends can all safely gather together and are also in the process of shopping for their first home together.

Tango hugs and greetings!
Ann L. Person

Classes this Week: This week in review - we are perfecting our molinete. The real root of tango, this is the most basic of moves, but as always in tango we can do a thousand different things with it. But first we have to make it beautiful, and lead it well. What's the trick? I'll show you!  We start at 6:30.
Please remember that you have to be fully vaccinated to attend! Please don't be offended if I ask to see your card, or ask you to send a photo of it. We are really trying to be careful. There is always plenty of hand sanitizer in the studio, and you are always welcome to wear a mask.

If  people are concerned about unrest in Minneapolis, please be assured that things are very quiet around here. However, if you want an escort to/from your car, let me know. Also, parking is easy in front of the studio. You may even chose to park in front of the garage.

Private Lessons:  Yes, we can have a dance lesson here if you have been vaccinated!  If not, we can have a socially distanced lesson if you bring your own partner. Still wanting to stay home? We can do a video lesson - it works great! I can also come to you, or you can arrange your own group lesson.

Tuesday Milonga: A milonga/dance/party for those who have been vaccinated! More and more join us every week. Come now and claim your special wine glass 🍷 , then you know you're a real regular.  We start at 8:00.  Come and join us! Or you can join us virtually. I'll have the computer on.
Next week - the weather has to cooperate soon! Maybe outdoors?

Upcoming: Tango Society's May event: A-May-Zing outdoor Dancing & Music celebration, featuring Rogue Tango Duo of Scott Mateo Davies and Wendy Tangen-Foster! Plus, the one and only DJ Pablo!
💥 Saturday, May 8th, 5-7pm
💥 Kodiak Park, 1845 49th Ave. NE, Columbia Heights, MN
💥 $10 per person.
☔️ If it rains, we'll be on zoom.

Musings: I love to wonder about how tango got to be the way tango is. Tango was once quite a simple dance, just walking to the music, so the original dancers tell us.  But then someone did something, tried something, or even made a mistake, and found out it worked, it was kind of cool, it was pretty, musical, and the partners liked it. Then others tried it, copied it, improved on it, and made it their own. PorteΓ±os are very creative people! Or the floor conditions made it a necessity. Floors got bigger as the dance got more popular, and there was no longer the need to stay in one place. Moves could be stretched out. Or as the dance became more popular and there were more dancers on the floor, it was more necessary to squeeze the dance into a tighter place. All of the answers are shrouded in the mists of time, and the fantastic ability of PorteΓ±os to tell tall tales, so we will never truly know. But it is fun to imagine, and understanding the evolution can help us understand the dance as a whole. So we continue to research the past, and feel the connection to the dancers who came before us.

Private Lessons:  Yes, we can have a socially distanced lesson here if you bring your own partner. Masks are worn! If you have been vaccinated, we can have a lesson together. Or we can do a video lesson!

Tuesday Milonga: We can now safely join here for a milonga for those who have been vaccinated. Come and join us! Mostly tango music, with a bit of other thrown in just to jet everyone moving. More people can join us every week! Or you can join us virtually. I'll have the computer on. meet.google.com/svk-wxah-ykg#
I know we have been hoping for an outdoor party, but the weather has not been cooperating! Maybe next week?

Musings:  It has been hard to stay positive over the last several years. First road closings impacted attendance here, and then Covid hit and closed everything.  Now road construction is finishing up, and I caught a break with an early vaccination, but of course I have to wait for everyone else to get theirs. And now I heard from a person who was nervous about coming to my house because of possible unrest in the city - which seems strange because I live here every day.  But I try to remember the incredible support of this great community we have. The people who prepaid for private lessons. The guy who continued to mail in his class fee even though I wasn't charging for classes. The students who called or wrote to ask how I was doing. Those people who took the chance to try virtual lessons.  We have a great and generous community, and we are all working for the tango scene to be vibrant and interesting. Tango will survive!
