[TSOM-Announce] Tango Flash Mob Wanted

Hello Tango World, ….

Hello rest of the world…

 

TSOM is looking for some willing and gregarious tango dancers to participate in the occasional flash mob / tango interlude throughout the year. This is a TSOM coordinated effort, and our first event is scheduled for 11may, 7pm at  Can-Can Wonderland in Saint Paul.

[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: we need YOU! Peer tango learning project

You can be a tango peer teacher! Intrigued?  We need YOU to help grow the tango community! Hello tango dancer!  We are reaching out to you because we thought you might be interested in some tango community building ideas! At Tango & I it has become tradition to host a tango Boot camp.  Some of you started dancing Tango because of boot camp, Many of you have helped out to give the beginner tango dancers a wonderful learning experience.  And many of those Boot camp dancers are now part of our tango community! We also have added the Tango Challenge in which we have "tango buddies" who play a crucial role into introducing the new tango student good learning habits, and helping them to get to know other people from the tango community. We are now on yet another journey that will tie the boot camp, the tango challenge and the tango buddies all together:  Peer to peer learning.   A beginner tango student will learn faster if they have a kind tutor/buddy by their side. The tutor/buddy will learn more about tango because he/she is teaching. The relationship that is build during peer learning session has a great outcome for the tango community: the beginner student has an invested interest in coming back to dance tango. So, this is where you come in: a peer tango teacher!   Here is how it works: Janeen Rae and Sabine Ibes have set up 2 hours in May where you and other peers will get together to receive all the information needed for you you to be a successful peer teacher.  FREE And you will have a practice session with the same group where you practice on each other. In the beginning of June, at tango Boot camp, you will be assigned 1 or 2 beginner students with whom you will be working closely with for the duration of the boot camp.  Scary you say?  We ( Janeen and Sabine) will be there to help if needed. Choose ONE Session option  (each session 2 hours total) Session A: Saturday mornings 10 am May 6 and 13   Session B: Thursday evenings 7.30 pm May 18 and 25  Session C: Sat 10 am May 6 & Thurs 7.30pm May 25  Practice Practica: Saturday morning 11 am May 27 Boot camp Saturday June 3  10 till 11.30  AND 12 till 1.130 This is a prototype. Which is another reason why your help will be so appreciated! Other tango communities are experimenting as well, Oxygen Tango in L.A. has a prototype; a tango peer learning app. Right now it is only available on Android…..   They are hoping it might be available by the time we have our tango challenges ( September)  We will use what we learn to add to the Challenge tango buddy project.  We are very excited about this project!  And hope that you are too!  No strings attached, free of charge, BUT: when you commit we have to be able to count on you for the 2 training hours plus 2 hour practica during the month of May, AND the 3 hours of the boot camp in June. This Friday is Viernes de Mala Yunta!  Come and celebrate all the great things that happened in April: La Cumparsita turned 100 years on April 19th and coincidentally that same day but MANY years later, Tamara decided to come to this world.    Join us to celebrate b-days in April, dance tango, chacarera, and practice your cabeceo!

[TSOM-Announce] Tango Opera - Maria de Buenos Aires

Have you Heard?

 

 

Some of you have already heard the buzz that the Astor Piazzolla opera, “Maria de Buenos Aires,” will be presented this coming July by the Mill City Opera Company. The TSoM Board has been working with the Mill City folks to make this a very special event for tango in the Twin Cities

 

Performances will take place at the Machine Shop near St. Anthony Main. At the present time, tickets are only available for opening night. In early May, tickets for the other performances will go on sale – “pre-sale” tickets on May 8^th and all tickets on May 15^th.

 

Lessons and Milongas

There will be a lesson given by our local tango teachers before each of the performances, and there will also be a 90 minute milonga after each performance with music by local DJs.

 

Complimentary Tickets

Now for the best part, TSoM has negotiated complimentary tickets for each of the performances. These will be available to TSoM members through an application process described below. The complimentary tickets are "standing room" tickets for the balcony area overlooking the stage. The performance is 95 minutes. Those who receive tickets will be expected to participate in the milonga that will occur after each performance.

 

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Sometime during the first week in May, I will send out a link to an online form that can be filled out. On this form you will indicate your preference with regard to the performance you would like to attend. An announcement about exactly when the form will be available (the day and the time) will be sent via “TSoM Announce” a few days before the date when the application process begins.

 

Complimentary tickets will be available for

     Friday, July 14 - 40 tickets available (Opening Night)

     Sunday, July 16 - 12 tickets available

     Tuesday, July 18 - 12 tickets available

     Wednesday, July 19 - 12 tickets available

     Thursday, July 20 - 12 tickets available
