I was going to ramble on about his national reputation, his international reputation, his musical reputation, etc.. but that is to waste a lot of email space repeating what is easy to discover yourself by looking or asking a little.

This email is to remind you that Alex is coming to town July 18-20 , and he's here to share his wealth of tango knowledge with us.

Please sign up before June 18 to get the early discount. It does increase after that, and while he's one of the best, why pay extra?

[TSOM-Announce] Cancellation - Monday Practica for Monday, June 2nd only

Attention tangueros: Maxi Gluzman will teach a class right before the milonga on Friday, May 30.

Class will be from 8:30pm-9:30pm.

[TSOM-Announce] 5th Saturday Milonga

Spring is finally here, and what a better way to enjoy the warm weather and bring a new month than 5th Saturday Tango at the Virginia Street Church!

We'll have a special DJ for this event, Maxi Gluzman, so you won't want to miss out. Fran Howley will be our MC and I'll be assisting.

The dancing starts at 8:30pm and lasts till midnight: no pre-dance lesson, so come for the great music and wonderful setting of the historic Cathedral hill neighborhood in St. Paul.

$8.00 for members, $10.00 for non-tsom members, students get a discount. Water and soda on hand for $1.00 a bottle, and some light snacks. Any donations to the food table WILL be appreciated!

[TSOM-Announce] TTC tango camp Minnesota update

Hello tango dancers!

In 2 weeks time our TTC tango Camp in Minnesota, June 12 -15 in Lake Frontenac Minnesota, will be a fact! We are so very excited that many of you have decided to sign up! There is a lot to choose from. We have added some events,including our midnight pancakes, make sure to take another look at the schedule on our website www.tangoteachercoop.org

At this point we only have 4 more slots left in the teacher in training track. And we will be closing registration for this track June 2nd. You will not be able to walk in for this track!

For our student track you are able to walk in for classes, practicas, presentations or milongas. But we strongly suggest you register online so we can make sure that we have a leader/follower balance for the classes.

And, if you would like to stay on campus; there are still a couple of beds available, but not that many! Villa Maria is the perfect setting to reconnect with nature, the place to contemplate your tango and, the other important things in life! If you choose to eat with us, the deadline for ordering meals is June 2nd. The meals are good! We have some great presenters this year as well; In addition to guiding one of the practicas, Elizabeth Seyler will present on Friday evening: "Dancing with Pluralism", tango past and present in a world of diversity. Elizabeth is a dance scholar and has presented about Argentine Tango around the world! On Saturday evening, Jason Laughlin, in addition to teaching 2 classes, will also present: "Truth in tango", parallels between tango and improv comedy.

On Sunday evening we are very proud to present the Hiawatha Tango Orchestra! They will be playing 2 sets of tango music for us starting at 10 o'clock. Through out the evening Mitra Martin will be our DJ.

The weekend will be all about you as a tango dancer, and has been designed so that you can relax while learning. Optimum for your tango brain. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY IN YOUR HOME STATE TO PLAY, TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS, TO ENJOY TANGO IN A GORGEOUS SETTING.

The Monday Evening Tango Practica will host a Practilonga on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th. Our DJ will be Paul Lohman.  We will dance tango from 7:30 until 11:30. [TSOM-Announce] : Everything is it's Own Reward :

Dear Friends and Minnesota Tango Students:

David Rost host of El Alma milonga and myself, Gretchen Larson announce our debut teaching engagement at Four Seasons, home of David's popular El Alma milonga. Florencia Tacchetti, long time teacher, organizer and performer has invited us to teach as she returns to Argentina permanently this spring. I would like to recognize her unique contributions to our community and thank her personally for generously sharing her knowledge and passion for Tango. We wish you happiness in your new endeavors Florencia!

Our goal is to foster self motivated learners that can perform, respond and create in a positive, thoughtful and energetic fashion.

So what is an Advanced Beginner?
We had a lot of fun talking this over and here's a short self test:
Do you think and move in circles or straight lines?
Are you in continuous motion even during a pause? Are you dancing even when standing still?
Are you aware of and use asynchronous energy in the embrace?
Are you aware of and use disassociation? What the heck is this?
What is your relationship with the music?

We all have had a magical tango moment, the Grail that keeps us taking lessons, spending vacations in odd locations and putting on our glam when it's below zero and dark at 5 o'clock. These transcendent moments center on HOW WE FEEL.
Winding and unwinding is one of our favorite sensual experiences in tango and essential to several basic skills. We will introduce this concept and give you tools to assess your awareness, structured exercises to experience torsion and room to experiment.
We expect you to come with basic tango vocabulary and skills, an open mind and heart and an active learning attitude.

We are looking forward to sharing what we know in this more formalized environment.

About Dave and Gretchen
David has been dancing long enough that he doesn't keep track anymore. He has led several successful practice groups and was the first to teach a leading for women class in Minneapolis. He has a love affair with music dating back to his teens and a special spot for Tango which he shares with us as host of El Alma milonga which celebrated it's 10 th birthday recently. He travels regularly to dance and learn including annual excursions to San Francisco. He has also taught math and practices the creative process in his Clark Kent mode as a graphic designer.

Gretchen Larson has been studying social tango for twelve years. She travels regularly to continue her formal training and dance in social settings, including two extended trips to Buenos Aires.

Her teaching experience includes k-12 and adult learners, distance learning settings and a background in gymnastics instruction. She currently teaches at the Cowles Center for the Arts and by invitation.

She is especially interested in the impact of social dance on communities and dance pedagogy.

In her professional life she has worked at Nordstrom for as long as she can remember fulfilling a variety of roles and reveling in the ever changing world of fashion retailing.

[TSOM-Announce] Desperate for Tango??

This Monday we have a special class with Guillermo and MarinaJ

Next Monday we have our Memorial Day Practilonga! Details to come on the Practilonga, but you can be sure we’ll have the music of DJ Pablo, a fun relaxed atmosphere, and we’ll run from 7:30 till 11:30.

But for this Monday… G&M will prepare us with a great lesson and we’ll have some extra time to practice. Details below:

Dear Tango Friends,
Our Monday night practica will be hosting a special event this coming Monday, 19 May.

The delightfully funny and exquisitely skilled Guillermo and Marina have agreed to teach a class for us. (Just this once, since we asked very nicely!) Our starting time will be 7:30 per our usual custom. Class will run until 8:45 and we will extend our practica time until 10:00, so you will have at least another hour to put into your bodies what Guillermo and Marina plant in your minds.

The topic is still open, but it will be taught at an intermediate level.

Many of you already know the Desparados are dedicated to improving our tango by creating a practice space that is easy to attend. We welcome all tango students from everywhere to share our practice space and friendly environment. We have a spacious floor, really nice dancers, and great music.

We are usually just an open practica event, but we had to make an exception for G&M. They are in town for just a few days, and since they are not having a weekend seminar, we thought it would be fun for everyone to have at least one class.

The cost is $15 for both the class and the practica following.

Currently paid-up Desparados get the class for $5.

Anyone wishing to be currently paid-up is welcome to join or rejoin at the door!! 13 week subscription is just $40 + 5 for the special class.

We meet at the minneapolis eagles club every week on Monday evenings.

Third Saturday Milonga: We have a charity performance Saturday, so there will not be a Third Saturday milonga. However, you can still tango Saturday, at the U of M Tango Club's dance. University Baptist Church, 1219 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414, back of the building, entrance at the bottom of the stairs 9:00 PM $10

Upcoming: Lessons for Parkinson's Patients: I am overwhelmed by your responses about teaching tango to Parkinson's patients. Yes, I will need assistance - it looks like there is a lot of interest out there! If you know of someone who might benefit from these classes, have them sign up at passporttolive.com. The first classes will be Thursday during the day, probably starting at about 10:30. If you are interested in donating your time, money or efforts to assist us, please contact me!

Tuesday Party: 9:00 after the lessons. The food has been great, and the dancing too! Come and join us, BTW - this is one where you can come on time, or even early. We are here already - you won't be the first to arrive :)

Private Lessons: Followers - are you confused by all the conflicting information that you are being given? Yes, following is a skill that too many leaders like to help you with, but don't know how to do. They may give you suggestions that are quite far away from what is right, especially for you as an individual. If you are not a natural dancer, or haven't been dancing all your life, you can still be great. Let me help you be the best follower you can be, with the skills you have.

[TSOM-Announce] puro tango

Join me for another evening of delicious tango, vals and milongas this Friday night at

FourSeasons dance. Hopefully it will be a little warmer outside, but its always a warm atmosphere inside.

Music begins at 9:30 and runs until 1am. light snacks and beverages are on hand however feel free to byob or add to the snacks.

admission is $10 students $5.00

[TSOM-Announce] Guillermo Cerneaz and Marina Kenny teaching at Social Dance Wednesday 5/14/14

Hello tango dancers,

Guillermo (Guille) Cerneaz and Marina Kenny are back in town!

Guille and Marina have been traveling around the US at various festivals. They were in just Denver for Natural Tango and are off to other places around the world BUT they will stop over in Minnesota for a week. Guille and Marina love Minnesota and all of you!

I met Guille and Marina at Natural Tango over a year ago and fell in love with them. They are sensitive, kind and know what and how to teach. Guille and Marina bring their personalities and charm to each and every class. They are generous with their tango knowledge. Last September they came to Minnesota and spent over 2 weeks with us. Many of you remember them, and asked if I would bring them back again. Well they are back if only for a short while.

Guille and Marina will not be teaching a weekend of workshops, but they will be teaching our 730 and 830 classes! They are fun AND do cool stuff! Please do not miss this opportunity to take class with them while they are here. Limited privates are available so please contact me if you are interested.

Time: 730 and 830 classes

Topics: Close embrace moves and 8 count basic gone wild. ( Tentative topics)

Cost : $20 per class
