Tango Technique workshop by Sabine Ibes

Both leaders and followers
Saturday October 17 11-1

Give your tango that extra quality, style and elegance.

Let's cut to the chase: We like to believe that it's not how your tango looks, rather how it "feels". Well, it will feel a whole lot better when your body moves in a natural way, which, btw, looks elegant and style full. In return that will help you connect better, be more grounded or stable, be more playful. Why? Because your movements are more predictable for you and your partner!

Technique is the foundation of dance movement. Together with Sabine you will explore your quality of movement, (walk, pivots, sacadas, boleo, enrosque ) embrace, partnering and improvisation.

To better serve your needs;

  • 4 months steady tango lessons required to attend workshop
  • Leaders & Followers welcome
  • Bring shoes and socks, wear comfortable clothing
  • $ 30 payable to Sabine Ibes (no creditcards please)
  • At Dance Life Ballroom, 6015 Lyndale Ave, Minneapolis
  • RSVP @ sabine@tangoandi.com OR
  • Let us know you are coming by joining the event here

Meet Megan Harrington!  Megan is part of our fast track program at Tango & I. That means she is an active participant in all of our classes, workshops, milongas and practicas. She is assisting in the beginner classes and we just love having her around! We asked Megan about her and tango:

My tango journey started when I went to the Loring Pasta Bar on a Sunday night five years ago and I knew I had to be apart of this dance.
I spend most if my time thinking about tango. And if that wasn't enough I have started making clothing and repping shoes through my company Adorn Tango Attire.
My other passion is travel and I love the the tango festival scene and all the wonderful people I have met. Seeing new places durning the day and then dancing the night away.
To me it's simple. It's all about the connection of tango.
See you on the dance floor!

Buenos Aires or Bust!
March 2016, Sabine  is going to Buenos Aires and she wants you to join her!  Why?

  1. It's summer in Argentina in march!
  2. Immerse yourself in tango
  3. Sabine is teaching at CITA and has great deals for you to come take classes there - info at the bottom
  4. Being in Buenos Aires with a group is FUN!
  5. Did we mention that it is winter here in March and warm in  Buenos Aires?
Seriously, CITA is one of the oldest running tango festivals in the world, right smack in the middle of everything tango: Buenos Aires Argentina. And the list of teachers is incredible. Almost all of the classes are taught in english in a very nice setting as well. The milongas are well organized and great fun.

Fundraiser Milonga for the Syrian refugees
Saturday evening Oct 24
What can I do? What can you do?

You can come and dance the night away AND give to the UN refugee agency - UNHCR. As a tango community we can really make a tiny dent into the costs involved in helping people in dire need.

Together with Bashar Zaim and Crystal Zaim we handpicked an organization that is the best fit for our community and the refugees who need it most.
Please listen to the story of Hamza, and take a look at the organizations we are taking a closer look at, by going to this link:

Hamza's story
We would like to make this into a meaningful evening for everyone involved. So if you have ideas, please contact me directly.

Bring your wallets and dance shoes, and we will do just that!
ALL proceeds will go directly to the charity organization.

Paul Lohman has donated his DJ skills, and Shinya has donated the space at Dance Life Ballroom!  TSoM is donating the food!

Let us know you are coming by joining the event here

[TSOM-Announce] You share a tango move and we share a chance for Free classes with Guillermo and Gaby! Oh Yeah!!

The Tango Desperados present:

Share a Move… Win a Class Pass!

It’s back, our totally collaborative, non-competition for sharing your favourite dance ideas and winning really nice prizes!  Come onto the floor and show us something you like: it could be a big move or a little move, a turn, an embellishment, a volcada with strawberry sauce, a rhythmic twist on something familiar, or a move so bold, so different, it has to be seen to be appreciated. The only requirement are that it has to be tango and that you are willing to get up and share it!  Whether you learned from it a master, made it yourself, stumbled on it during a dance, or just stole it from YouTube, it’s all good.

Everyone who enters will make our evening even nicer. There will be some real winners: people who get out and share for the first time, dancers who polish-up a nice move to share, and all the folk who watch and say, “ I want to do that!”  So lots of winners  J

You can be a complete beginner and still win a prize. All you have to do is participate.

Prizes will be awarded by a random drawing. Everyone who shares will have their name in a hat to be selected for one of the prizes.

The Prizes are really nice: They are Friday-Saturday passes for Guillermo and Gaby’s forthcoming weekend workshop at Dance-Life in Minneapolis (November 20-22, 2015) See Diana Devi for workshop details or watch for the flyer next week.

Each pass will cover 3 classes: (1 Friday / 2 Saturday)!

We will award at least 2 passes.  If we get 10 or more couples to enter, we’ll award 4 passes. So tell your friends to come over and share.

Anyone can enter. Just come in to the practica and pay the usual $5 for practice (Desperados don’t pay anything extra of course J)

Suggested music : We’ll have some DiSarli on tap. If you have a special request, we’ll try to accommodate, if you tell us the week beforehand.  (It would be great to see some milonga or vals magic!  We’ll find the tunes if you give us the word early enough.)

Show off time: 5 October at the Tango Desperados Practica, ‘round about 9pm. (That gives you a little while extra to polish those tango gems!)

There might be more rules, but probably nothing that common sense wouldn’t already suggest. We might have to make adjustments at the last minute, but this is just a bit of fun and not the mega-millions lottery! J  But then, you have a real chance of winning one of these ….

Happy dancing!

Scott, Michael, and your friends at Desperados
