We are very grateful and pleased to be able to have live music at our event! This always adds to the atmosphere!   Want to know more about the Orchestra?  https://www.facebook.com/HiawathaTangoOrchestra

And this would not be possible without you: most of you are members of TSoM! If you are not and you would like to join :  http://www.mntango.org

Talking about TSoM: they have their monthly milonga coming up soon, Saturday May 10th.  Tango and I, Sabine and Diana, will be teaching the lessons before the milonga starts that evening. The event will be held at Four Seasons Dance Studio. take a look at TSoM's page www.mntango.org

****************************

Let's talk about classes EVERY WEDNESDAY EVENING at SOCIAL DANCE STUDIO  Argentine Tango classes by Sabine Ibes and Diana Devi.

located at 3742 23rd Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN 55407

We start our tango series with the beginners classes at 6.30:

This week: Getting familiar with the 8 count basic for week #1
Turns in the 8 count basic for week # 5

If you are a beginner tango dancer, you do not need to bring a partner to class. We make sure that there are always dance partners, instructors and assistants available to dance with you. You will not be sitting down in these classes! Bring shoes that you can pivot ( spin ) in easily. The first class at SDS is free, tell your friends!

All level series A and B at 7.30:

series A: Close Embrace Classics.  Everything that you know in tango in a close or closer embrace. For some movements it is more tricky than others. The embrace is part of the essence of Argentine Tango, and should be a comfortable one. Please join Diana for some great tango work!

series B: The ins and outs of tango steps, turns, and embraces!
The question we as teachers get asked the most is: "how do I start this sequence" or "how do end this move?"  These are actually not to difficult to figure out, but there are some tricks to the Tango trade, Sabine and Dave will help you discover them  ( :

Intermediate/Advanced level series at 8.30

The title to this class is:  TANGO
sacada, strong and weak beat, connection, axis, milonga, boleo, embrace, Biaggi or Canaro, balance, partner, forward cross etc etc etc
All these words have one thing in common: they all belong in TANGO     In this class, through tango movement and sequences you will start to understand more about tango, why it is danced a certain way and why it works.

PRACTICA : EVERY SATURDAY AFTERNOON FROM 3.30 TILL 5 AT SDS

Looking forward to seeing you in class!

Sabine and Diana

[TSOM-Announce] FLORENCIA IS AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATES ON THE NEXT 2 WEEKS!!!

Hello my dears,

I am open for privates on the next 2 weeks.
Please let me know if you want to book some time.
I always offer discounted packages that can fit your convenience.
Also we can split the cost in 4 or 6 students for a mini-private session if you can organize the group.
It doesn't have to be formal couples it can be all leaders or all followers or any combination, and we can work in what ever you decide that you need.

Privates are always the best investment on your tango.
You can buy a whole collection of the most beautiful pairs of "Comme il Faut" but if you don't learn how to develop the strength on your feet they are totally useless and they will look dead on your feet. :(
The same count for the leaders when they spend all that money in expensive 2 tone shoes and they don't know how to articulate their feet, then the shoe will show even more any weakness on their dance. :(
Come and learn how to give life to those shoes and leave the room happier!!! :)

Email or call 612-735-6579.

See you on wednesday other wise!!!

Yeaaaaahhh!!!!

[TSOM-Announce] "BARRIDAS COMBINATIONS" THIS WEDNESDAY AT 4 SEASONS!!!

Hello everybody,

Thank you to everybody who attended this past workshop week-end.

Thank you to 4 Seasons for the promotion, thank you to my dear assistant Mayu to sacrifice part of her family life to work with me with such dedication, talent and love.

Thank you for all the attendants, the men and the courageous ladies who came and learn how to lead for the first time.
You ladies did a wonderful job and end up leading very challenging moves.
Congratulations!!!

After very popular demand I was asked to teach the wednesday class this week.

I decided to keep working in some very cool barridas combinations since it was part of the week-end topic but we could not get that far.

I will keep the class open to All Levels and everybody is welcome to attend, new tangueros and the ones who have been working in this community for 10 years as well.
Everybody will enjoy coming back to class and help the new tangueros to grow in their tango as you revitalize your own tango as well.
This way you actively help the community to get stronger.

If you were at Natural Tango Festival last week-end come and share some of that passion left from the week-end with the rest of the community that could not travel.
Everybody needs to be contagious with that passion.

Class will be $20 and you can pay at the door.
Full time students always 50% off.

See you on wednesday, please spread the voice between your friends!!!

If you can, send me a confirmation of attendance will be nice to see how the gender balance is, other wise just show up around 7:30 to register, greet your friends and warm up so we can start on time.

I am very looking forward to see you again!!!

Abrazos,

Florencia

[TSOM-Announce] FLORENCIA TACCETTI WORKSHOPS COMING NEXT WEEK-END!!!

Hello everybody,

I've been having a difficult time supporting my mother that is very ill in Argentina.
Thanks to the new medications and her amazing life force she is still with us but I don't know for how long.
That is one of the many reason why I can not plan to stay longer in Minnesota.

Just a reminder about the workshops.
The workshop has a value that matches my talent and dedication as a teacher, my years of experience and my trajectory as a dancer and performer as well.
I have been dancing tango for almost 30 years and before that I was part of the Contemporary City Ballet of Buenos Aires.
I've been studying dance with the best modern dance companies in Europe on the 90's, movement analysis, biomechanics and many other disciplines related with dance and theater for 40 years until today and all that blend of amazing knowledge is what I apply in my classes with the same love and dedication that I always gave to my students from the very beginning.
I've been teaching and partnering many of the teachers in the US that you take workshops from today. :)

Beside all that, I understand that everybody has a difficult time to afford tango workshops today when spending in tango lessons is not a priority, of course.
I have been very flexible always but even more lately knowing the situation and trying to accompany the times with understanding and compassion.
I will be very flexible with students who really want to attend this classes and can not afford the whole price.
If that is your case I'm here to help, so you don't have to worry, talk to the person who does registrations at the door and just pay what ever you can, you will be as welcome as everybody else, you don't even have to talk to me but you can if you wish.
I've been always appreciated other teachers who did the same to me in the past when I could not afford classes and I like to do the same to the ones who really needed.

I am resending the flyer for the workshops.
I decided not to do pre-registrations, if you are coming you can pay at the door but I will appreciate if you can let me know if you are coming and when are you coming if you know that in advance just to have an idea of how will be the gender balance.

Women who want to lead or men who want to follow are always welcome but you have to let me know in advance and will be best in that case to bring a partner to switch role with for the entire class but it can be different, just let me know in advanced if you can.

Of course the workshop was designed for students to get most benefits if they attend the whole week-end but you also have the option to attend one day only if you can not do other.

See you very soon!!!!

[TSOM-Announce] My first quarter on the job

Dear TSOM members:

We've just finished up the first quarter of this new year and I'd like to thank you all for your support and great attendance to our first Milongas of the year, in spite of the worst weather in almost 35 winters!  We've started out the spring season with a great Milonga at the Four Seasons, and I'm looking forward to our May Milonga, also at the Four Seasons, complete with live music from Bob Barnes and his group.  After tonight's snow shower, bring on the warm weather with a tango!

As your new president, I have a few ideas I'd like to see implemented during my two year term, and will be sharing those with all of you a bit later.  For now though, over the next few months, I'm planning on visiting all of our community DJ's and teachers on a one to one basis to introduce myself and talk shop.  Some of them I know quite well, others I need to get to know better.  The heart and soul of our group is the way I think of these wonderful people;  They're one of our biggest resources!

Coming into the spring and summer, we have some great events to enjoy.  In June, the TTC  tango camp will be once again held by Sabine Ibes and her group, giving the community a great chance to learn and enjoy from some great instructors and dancers.  Along these lines, TSOM will not be holding our 2nd Saturday Milonga, as many of you will be attending this four day event.

So think positive Minnesota;  After tonight no more snow!  And if that's the case, lets all get out and dance a tango or two.

Have a good Easter weekend all,
                                                                Rueben Hansen
                                                                TSOM President
