They say that if you haven't danced tango in Buenos Aires, then you haven't danced tango. Is this the year? Come with us to Buenos Aires this November! This will be my 16th year - you can still join us!

My greatest joy is helping visitors understand and feel comfortable in the authentic Porteño tango world and in BA. I will take you to milongas that are right for your level. I will introduce you to my milonguero and milonguera friends. Some of them will naturally dance with you, opening the door for other connections on the dance floor.

You do not need to be a great dancer! But you will leave as one. You bypass the usual initiation period in BA milongas, and feel immediately like you belong. When you dance often and with very good milongueros, your trip is so much more valuable. Often, I see tables with people who come to BA alone, and they are not dancing at all, or dancing with poor dancers. This is sad, because if they had come with me, they would have been dancing.

My tango house guests also enjoy the camaraderie of other housemates - for meals at home, for milongas and classes, for practicing in the tango room, for jaunts around the city or out-of-town excursions. So if you come to Buenos Aires with us, you can choose autonomy, or hang out with a new best friend or go out with the whole group. You never have to feel alone. We have parties all the time. We will have typical Argentine meals, and usually an asado. I will give you classes, city tours, shoe and clothes shopping tours (with the best discounts), and help you to become familiar with the streets and public transportation so that you can feel comfortable. I will help you negotiate, and understand the complex money situation as well as keep you out of trouble. I provide maps and guides, as well as help you find the best deals and steer clear of overpricing and fraud - which can be common, especially for the tango tourist.

The trip is already full from December 3rd to December 11. Several are leaving November 19th and there is still room available for earlier.  Contact me with your dates!

My goal is to save you plenty of time, money and energy, while getting the most out of your vacation tour. Rates are reasonable - as little as $400/week for double occupancy.

Remember, medical and dental care in Buenos Aires is excellent, (often better than the US) and much cheaper than the U.S. If you are in need of some elective or non-insured procedure, let me know and I will find the best care for you. This can often save you more than the cost of the trip.

FYI -Wednesday July 1st is the Krung Thep Thai milonga!  starts at 7PM. Join us!

Practice your tango?

Becoming an expert is a marathon, not a sprint.

You cannot reach your mental and physical limits in just a few weeks or months. To grow to the top of your tango game, you'll have to persevere for many creative tango dancing years!

Every Saturday morning (11 till 1) we at Tango and I host a tango practice session: "a Practica"

Staff is always on hand to answer any questions you have about improving your dance technique, musicality, tango steps vocabulary and more.

When we learn a new skill, whether it is knitting, driving a car, dancing tango or playing chess, we are changing how your brain is wired on a deep level. Science has shown us that the brain is incredibly plastic - meaning it does not harden at a young age and stay solid for the rest of our lives. While certain things, like learning a new language, are more easily learned by children than adults, we have plenty of evidence that older adults can see real transformation in their neuro circuitry and adapt to new ways of moving, like in the Argentine Tango.

In other words, it's not about what you're born with, it's about how consistently and deliberately you can work to improve any performance.

Here are four important aspects of practicing your tango skills well, and something that is provided for you in a safe learning environment: the practica at Dance Life Ballroom.

1 You must be motivated to attend to the task and exert effort to improve your performance

2 The design of the task should take into account your pre-existing knowledge so that the task

can be correctly understood after a brief period of instruction. ( In class or practica)

3 You should receive immediate informative feedback and knowledge of results of your performance.

4 You should repeatedly perform the same or similar tasks.

So come and join us: Saturday mornings right after the foundation class from 11 till 1 at Dance Life Ballroom. $ 5, or 10 times for $45!

Note: NO PRACTICA JULY 4th -- Happy Holidays

Private Argentine Tango lessons,

why you should take advantage of that possibility.

In a private lesson we focus completely on you, and if you bring your partner, on your partnership as well.
How does it feel when you dance? Are you comfortable to dance with? And what can we do to give you the right practice skills to improve your Argentine Tango.
Our goal is for you to feel confident on the dance floor, so that other people love dancing with you as well.

To book a private lesson with either Sabine or Diana, please look at their combined calendar, pick a time slot that works for you and send an email to confirm the time.

[TSOM-Announce] Desperados present the musicand masters of Tango .. or a Tango Carol by DJ Pablo

Hello tango friends,

During last Monday’s announcements, I promised something a little different and a lot interesting.  Like some sideshow fortune teller, I suggested that we would soon be visited by the spirits of tangos past. Well, to carry that a little further, we are in fact expecting a visitation of sorts. Several of the late great masters will manifest on our practice floor, drawn by the meta-musical powers of DJ Pablo. It makes me shiver with excitement..

DJ Pablo will give us some background on these Tango greats before they arrive; followed perhaps some instruction on how to recognize them and listen to their suggestions for dancing.  My understanding is that this is perfectly safe, and the only known risk is deeper tango addiction.

Please join us this Monday, June 29 at 7:30 pm, when after a little time for us to settle in, DJP will open the doorway to greatness for us.

This will be little different than the teacher tasters, as we will be visited by several orchestras through the night.  But we will start about 7:45 to 8ish and go until they are exhausted.

Happy dancing!

Scott, Michael, and your friends at Desperados

[TSOM-Announce] Class times are moving up 1 hour each beginning July 2nd.

Due to an overwhelming number of requests the times for the Thursday evening Argentine Tango classes being held at the Four Seasons Dance Studio have moved up 1 hour each. See class descriptions and time changes taking effect July 2nd.

Men's Only All Level Progression Tango Class
WhenThu, June 25, 7pm – 8pm
WhereFour Seasons Dance Studio, Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, United States 1637 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403 (map)
DescriptionI want to propose this concept to you: the purpose of a tango step is not so much to keep you moving. What is it for? In our tango, there is no constant and forward momentum. If there's any—like we have when you're walking down the street, there's a constant forward momentum, or if you've ever danced or seen somebody dance ballroom there is a constant forward momentum, but part of the magic of Argentine tango is that we have an interval between our steps during which we feel our grounded-ness and we transmit that to our partner and we make them feel safe and stable. You know where you're standing. You feel solid. You feel stable and you feel secure. You're giving your security, your sense of stability. You are letting the woman in your arms know that she can trust you. When you're taking care of yourself, you also can then help her find her balance. She doesn't know this is going on. All she knows is whether she feels comfortable and safe with you. There's more to this, come and discover for yourself. Instructor: Ron Johnson Phone: 720-508-0290 Email: thetangotimes@gmail.com Cost $10.00 This is an Ongoing Class not a series, drop in okay. Follow up key points from each class are emailed to participants to journal. All levels encouraged and welcome. This is a Men's only, not an All leads class.
Community All Level Progression Tango Class
WhenThu, June 25, 8pm – 9pm
WhereFour Seasons Dance Studio, 1637 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403, United States (map)
DescriptionWhat Makes a Good Tango Lead, What Makes a Good Tango Follow? There are some eternal questions that are even more important than life, the universe and everything. Some of the most pivotal of these include: What makes a good tango leader/follower? How does a good leader/follower become great? How does your dance make the tango experience for your partner feel simply sublime? And will those brand-name tango shoes noticeably improve my dancing? Answer these, and you have - apparently - wildly surpassed the legendary wisdom of even King Solomon himself. Or perhaps not, be it a far cry for this teacher to assume he has all the answers to such life-and-death matters. Rather, and probably much more entertaining, is a set of o so wonderful and eloquent classes guided in introspection, reflections and collaboration in this beautiful dance. Instructor: Ron Johnson Phone: 720-508-0290 Email: thetangotimes@gmail.com Cost $10.00 This is an Ongoing Class not a series, drop ins okay.No Partner necessary, all levels welcome.

[TSOM-Announce] Milonga Mala Yunta: dance tango with Pride!

Queridos tangueros,
I was looking in different dictionaries for the meaning of Pride, and I found this:
From Cambridge Dictionary: a feeling of pleasure and satisfaction that you get because you or people connected with you have done something good... (for example: learned to dance tango)
From Oxford Dictionary: a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired... (for example: tango and our tango community)
It fits perfect with what we do!
Tango Pride (from Bataclan Tango): burst with pride this Friday at Milonga Mala Yunta!
DJ: Yanhua Deng
Delicious snacks and drinks. Champagne raffle and more!
General admission: $10, students: $5.
NOTE: Be aware that this weekend is Pride Day at the Loring Park, and parking is going to be challenge. Plan ahead: carpool, take public transportation, be prepared to walk...
