To all tangueros:  this has been a tough time.  It continues to be, as tango dancing really isn't much of a reality these days.  As leader and guitarist of Rogue Tango, I am feeling it deeply, too.

We are so grateful to TSOM for featuring us twice on Zoom Live events.  It felt unbelievably rich to re-connect, even if only on that level.

Our new recording is practically ready to go.  Apologies for the time it has taken.  I trust the music will be worth the wait.

I've started a YouTube channel----it's at ScottMateoDavies and is called The Intrepid Guitar: A Forum.  I promise to have LOTS of tango on this program.  There are some 50 videos uploaded there now;  many of them are tango videos I did with Rogue or with Mandragora Tango.  Please enjoy them.  Think about subscribing as it costs nothing, helps me a great deal, and will assure you don't miss anything new.  For example, I just completed a video of Piazzolla's Jacinto Chiclana that features the solo section played on a vintage 1968 Les Paul Custom guitar.  Guitar geeks will know what that's all about....It'll be out within a few days.

The LORING Restaurant is re-opening.  Owner Lynne Nyman and I had a lengthy chat and she assured me that all safety protocols are in place, along with a new menu.  She asked me to play Sunday evening, August 2nd and I said I would.  It'll be solo guitar, at least for a while.  Music is from 5 30pm till 8 30pm and I'll do my best to DJ adequately on my breaks.  I'll play a good number of tangos, some Latin Bossas, some Piazzolla and do my utmost to create a beautiful evening.  Please consider joining me this Sunday.  If all goes well, we'll keep the event in place.  Call and make a reservation, please.

Thank you, one and all, for continued support.  We ARE managing to get through turbulent times, together.  I'm hopeful the entire Rogue Tango band can do a Facebook Live event very soon, too.

Sincerely,  Scott Mateo Davies

This week in socially distanced classes! We are having another class and get-together virtually/at the studio. Our special guest for the class is Julia "Pugliese" Doynel, the goddess of Buenos Aires milonga organizers. Julia organizes several of the most successful milongas in Buenos Aires and makes them so much fun. She is a delightful host, and is my inspiration for the milongas I host here. For a sense of her milongas, click here: youtube.com/watch?v=bvxMABdshAg We will talk about many things, including how she organizes, how she started, and what things are like in Buenos Aires now. Join us for some tango knowledge, and then some hanging out. We will be virtual as well as outside - with all social distancing rules applied. Bring a chair and your mask. Lesson is at 7:30, party at 9.
Log on the same way you have before: it's easy! You can join with your video camera, or mute your mic and-or turn off your video. Same links as ever, just click here on your phone or computer: https://meet.google.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs
Otherwise, to join by phone, dial +1 774-404-2649 and enter this PIN: 959 028 975#

Private Lessons:  Yes, we can have a socially distanced lesson here if you bring your own partner. Or we can do a video lesson - it works great!

Tuesday Milonga: It's a garden party! Outside, and we will have tango music playing for responsible dancing on the smooth garage floor. Bring a chair, your mask, a beverage, and/or a treat to share.  Come and join us! It is so nice to see people in person again. If you can't join us physically, we'll have the computer going on for remote interaction. Click here on your phone or computer, and have your adult beverage ready: https://meet.go ogle.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs   Actual food, drink and seeing each other. Let's do it!

Musings: As I watched several of the Buenos Aires milonga videos to pick out one to share, I felt many things. Sadness, of course, because I am not there, in the arms of one of the great PorteƱo dancers and will not be for some time. Nostalgia, for all of the great times that I have spent there. Strangeness - how did we get to this eerie spot? And anger - this is so unfair!  But I also felt joy, remembering that I HAVE tango, and I will have tango, for the rest of my life. I stumbled upon this great miracle of a dance, with its caresses and companionship, its music and pageantry, its challenges and rewards. When we dance again, when we join each other in an embrace, when we move to the music again, we will do so with all the more enthusiasm and gratitude. Maybe we won't take tango for granted - it will always be there when we want it, we can skip tango tonight. Maybe we will think - I should just go. And you know what I think? Yes. Yes, you should.

Classes this Week: This week in socially distancing classes, we start Monday night with Tangosations brought to us by the Tango Society of MN and Eduardo Drake! "If you're like me, you've probably figured out that tango wasn't just a spice 🌶 of your life, but a gateway to it-- at least the juiciest part of it. That's why I've created this project called Tangosations. I love life, and I think you do too. I also believe the essence of tango is everywhere if we remember how to tune into it.
💎 In this learning party, I'll share some things I've learned from my adventures in the world of "authentic relating" -- a practice and body of knowledge that has deeply enriched my love affair with tango, and indeed all humans.
💎 we'll wiggle our plugs into humanity just a bit. We'll explore being together in ways that are off the beaten path of our habitual ways of interacting.
💎 We'll play together as a large group and in pairs in a series of facilitated Connectorcise games. Like a tango dance, these games invite us into states of heightened awareness, connection, and creative potential, leaving players generally feeling more awake and alive. Empowered.
💎 Outside of tango, I use the term transformational connection. In the tango world, some call these tango moments.
💎 I'm excited to connect with you and others in our tango community. Your non-tango dancer friends will enjoy this too; so feel free to share this invite with them!"

Tuesday

Log on the same way you have before: it's easy! You can join with the video camera, or mute your mic and turn off your video and talk or lurk. Same links as ever, just click here on your phone or computer: https://meet.google.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs Otherwise, to join by phone, dial +1 774-404-2649 and enter this PIN: 959 028 975#

Private Lessons:  Yes, we can have a socially distanced lesson here if you bring your own partner. Or we can do a video lesson - it works great! Or a lesson just for you, where I help you with your walk, moves, etc.

Tuesday Milonga: You need this, you know it! Come and join us! Click here on your phone or computer, and have your adult beverage ready: This week we start at 8:30 https://meet.google.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs    We'll maybe try another garage milonga next week. Actual food, drink and seeing each other. Let's do it! Give me an idea for a theme.

Saturday July 25: Ken Speed's Surprise Birthday Parade/Party! 5:00 PM Sharp! His house is 1725 41st Ave NE. Bring birthday banners, signs, balloons, noisemakers, etc, and wear your wildest summer outfits. We'll start at the corner of Pok and 41st, across the street from the church, then turn around and go by again. If you want to, join us for an outdoor mingle, BYOE, (masks, chairs, food, drinks) I will be playing music if you want to dance on the sidewalk, driveway, grass, etc. Yard is huge! Don't tell Ken! It's A Surprise!!

Musings:  A very wise person shared a great prediction with me recently. He said: "In two years, we will be back to a normal dance scene. People will be going out, socializing,  dancing, in close embrace.  They will be shaking hands, hugging, kissing upon greeting. They will be planning and traveling to dance vacations, going to group lessons, private lessons, looking for and having multiple practice partners. Our scene will be back to normal  - as if this never happened"  Yes, he is a very wise person and I believe he is right.
