SATURDAY JULY 5th: NO PRACTICA AT SDS

Let's talk about classes EVERY WEDNESDAY EVENING at SOCIAL DANCE STUDIO  Argentine Tango classes by Sabine Ibes and Diana Devi.
located at 3742 23rd Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN 55407

We start our tango series with the beginners classes at 6.30:

This week: Getting familiar with the 8 count basic for week #1
Turns in the 8 count basic for week # 5

If you are a beginner tango dancer, you do not need to bring a partner to class. We make sure that there are always dance partners, instructors and assistants available to dance with you. You will not be sitting down in these classes! Bring shoes that you can pivot ( spin ) in easily. The first class at SDS is free, tell your friends!

All level series A and B at 7.30:

series A: Turns to the left in cross system.  Please join Diana for these very compact and socially danceable turns. They can be rhythmic, slow, done in a close embrace or a more open embrace. They feel good and look handsome as well!

series B: Rock steps to the max: turning a rock step, locking a rock step, embellish the rock steps, rock steps in parallel and cross system, any where and any time. These little steps are the bomb! Sabine will make sure you will know all the ins and outs of these movements!

Intermediate/Advanced level series at 8.30

The title to this class is:  Maximum improvement on that legwork!  Boleo? need active legs. Embellishments? need active legs. Gancho? yes; active legs. Back Sacada? again, active legs.   We will explore ALL of the above movements and help you figure out how to implement these and look darn good doing so!

PRACTICA : EVERY SATURDAY AFTERNOON FROM 3.30 TILL 5 AT SDS

Looking forward to seeing you in class!

Reflecting on TTC tango camp Minnesota,

It has been almost 3 weeks since the camp, and I still am receiving email and notifications from people that went and enjoyed the camp thoroughly. The organization of something like this is, frankly, unbelievable, the detail that is needed to keep so many people happy and at the same time learning is extremely time consuming. And all of it done with love for this art form we call Argentine Tango. I was surrounded by a group of extraordinary folks who worked tirelessly with me to make TTC into the success that it was. And with the help of a MN state arts grant, the financial support from the Sewell family foundation and a grant through TSoM, plus donations from people like you.
We had so many out of town dancers, about 80 of them flew in or drove to our state and came to dance with all of you. They were particularly pleased with our friendly tango etiquette.
Here a reaction from a tango dancer from Arizona:        Earl Duque TTC was a fantastic, soulful, delicious, full life changing experience. Thanks Sabine and to all you Minnesota Friendly folks. I'm looking forward to visiting and dancing with you all again soon.
This is just one of the many I have received.

One particular fact I am very proud of is the following. We had a goal of putting together a TTC scholarship fund. We donated $5 for every full registration, I personally doubled the end result and we added all the proceeds from the boutique that Sandra Uri ran at TTC " the price is right" We now have $ 1000 in the scholarship fund.
John (my husband) and I want to honor our tango friend Ed Mucha, by dedicated this fund in his name. From now we will name it:
The ED MUCHA TTC scholarship fund

It took me a full week to recover from the camp, the emotions run high when you see something like that come to fruition. Not to mention the lack of sleep, all the learning and observing, the dancing and being "on" for 5 days!!!   The pancakes were delicious at 2 am, the fire flies were dazzling  all night long, the music by the DJ's ( including our very own Geoffrey Reiff, Paul Lohman, Cristopher Everett, and the Hiawatha tango orchestra) kept us going, the surroundings were peaceful and the company that we found our selves in was just the best ever!

Special milonga in Rochester hosted by TSoR on Saturday evening!

They are back, it was such a huge success having Fabian Salas and Lola Diaz in Rochester and Minneapolis last year that Fred & Myrna( Blue Moon Ballroom, Rochester) and Fabian made the decision about a week after they left to come back, and see what you have done with all the tango information that was given to you by them. Fabian Salas was one of THE first Argentine Tango Teachers in the world. That is right, in the whole wide world! There were many Argentine Tango dancers that showed a fun or even intricate step or two at a milonga, but him, and very few others, were at the birth of Argentine Tango teaching in the later eighties, as we now know it.
