Saturday Canyengue Workshop! You've been asking for it, and truly it is a necessary part of your tango education. Canyengue is a style of music and the dance that goes with it. It is a precursor to the more upright, staid tango that is now prevalent, and it is still widely danced in Buenos Aires and elsewhere. Once you dance it a bit, you'll understand why - it is so much fun! But it also will greatly enhance your understanding of tango and milonga, both the dance and the music. Important if you a re a serious tango student and really important if you are heading to Buenos Aires anytime. youtu.be/-opNGlTecoQ 1:00 to 3:00PM,  3142 1st Ave S, $25

Classes this Week: This week we will begin a series on playing with momentum and moves. We will add some interest to the moves you already know, and maybe open your mind about some of the cool things you can do to enhance and improve everything. Plus we will learn some new things, perhaps you hadn't thought you could do. In the Advanced class, we are continuing with volcadas, and add in some leg wraps. Women encouraged to come!

Private Lessons: This is where you hear what the leaders and followers who are dancing with you are suggesting I help you fix. They can't tell you themselves, that is up to your teacher, Schedule a private and and find out what you might be missing.

Tuesday Milonga: It will be hard to top the fun that we have been having at the Tuesday milonga, but we will try! It's time for some of my famous soup, because it's the right kind of weather. Since it is National Moldy Cheese day, you may want to stop by your cheesemonger and bring some cheeses such as Maytag blue, Roquefort, Brie, bleu, camembert, gorgonzola, and Stilton. These are a few of the moldy reasons this day is celebrated. #MoldyCheeseDay !

Tango Society of MN Milonga Saturday! I am DJ'ing this time, so all of the tango music will be wonderful and danceable, plus as always I'll slide in a tanda of swing, salsa, and other music to make your night even more fun. This time the dance is at the Virginia Street Church.
8:30 pm Free lesson with Rebecca Abas
Dancing:  9:30 pm to 1:00 am
DJ:.  Lois Donnay
Location: Virginia Street Swedenborgian Church, 170 Virginia St, St Paul, MN 55102, USA

Musings: Here are some excuses I hear from people who don't understand the importance of learning Canyengue: "I can't learn another dance - tango is already too hard!" This is not a new dance, but an insight into how tango developed. You'll find it all - the embrace, the floorcraft, the poses - all have new meaning when you understand the history. "Nobody dances it!" That's true, but once you learn it you will find it weird to not put in a few moves when the right music is played. And your partners don't need to know, but they will still be delighted with your creativity!. "It seems I'm breaking all the rules! Bend my knees? Head facing down? Arm around the neck?" Yes, I know, but at the same time we are respecting all of them. That's what happens with a deeper understanding of something. You learn the reasons for the rules, then you have the permission to bend them. I talked to an Argentine this weekend and he was so excited that I was giving this workshop. He understands the importance of learning history. We should all realize that!!
