[TSOM-Announce] Dancers with Waves

Hola, Tangueros and Family and Friends!!

Started by Nick Aguilar, Jim Dunn and Mike Ludvigsen, "Dancers with Waves" is a pot-luck, tango, picnic event that's been happening for several years for tangueros to picnic, dance and paddle kayaks. This year's event will occur at Turtle Lake County Park, 4979 Hodgson Rd, Shoreview, 55126, on Wednesday, June 28th from 3:30 pm until the park closes, 30 minutes after sunset. The beach faces west, so we'll have an unobstructed view of the sunset. There's plenty of nearby shade if you need to get out of the sun.

This family-friendly venue has plenty of free, convenient parking; women's and men's changing/restrooms (no port-a potties), a large ,flat, grassy area for dancing in the grass; drinking fountains; and a well kept swimming beach. No bicyclists or skate boarders will be racing by to run into us.

Dancers with Waves will supply kayaks and life vests for those who want to try paddling (we insist you wear the life vests). The kayaks will be right next to the swimming beach and our picnic spot. This is pot-luck, so bring a dish to share and a serving spoon if needed; we'll supply plates, cups, napkins, utensils, garbage cans etc. Bring your own beverages, coolers, chairs, blankets, towels, sunscreen and bug juice. Beer and wine ARE ALLOWED at this venue. If you'd like to volunteer to bring a folding table or a cooler with ice to keep beverages chilled, let me know.

In past events we've used a battery powered boom box with burned CDs to play music. There's no electrical outlet at this spot; if anyone knows of a way to play and amplify music other than a boom box and CDs, please let me know.

Besides paddling and dancing, you can be a Gaucho and  throw Nick's homemade boleadoras. There will be several sets of poi to spin and perhaps a fire spinning performance. If you want to try spinning fire we can arrange that!! Fire breathers are welcome (Alex?).

Jim Dunn and I will be at the park at 3:30 pm. Any available folks can show up early to help us stake out our tango territory. If weather threatens to cancel the event, call Jim at the park at 952-285-6858 and we'll let you know if we're cancelling.

This event is open to any tango dancers and their friends and family. Please forward this invite to any of your tango friends that might not be on the TSOM list. If you have any questions or wish to help out, contact Nick Aguilar at girlie1918@comcast.net.

If you think you might attend, please let me know so we can get an approximate count.

With Happy Feet,

Dancers with Waves
