Classes this Week: This week in socially distanced classes, we will be joined by Robert Hauk of Portland, OR, for an in-depth conversation on how to understand the role of the DJ at your milonga. Robert has been an Argentine Tango teacher and DJ since 1997. He started to DJ in 1998, with CD's back before you could burn your own CD's. DJ'ing is a very important skill. The DJ makes or breaks the milonga. Robert is very knowledgeable about the music, the technology, the acoustics, and how to build a playlist for a milonga that keeps dancers excited and entertained, and unable to keep sitting! youtu.be/w03KOVPXy-0

Log on the same way you have before: it's easy! You can join with the video camera, or mute your mic and turn off your video and talk or lurk. Same links as ever, just click here on your phone or computer: https://meet.google.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs

Private Lessons:  Yes, we can have a socially distanced lesson here if you bring your own partner. Or we can do a video lesson - it works great!

Tuesday Milonga:  Another garage milonga this week. Come and join us, physically or virtually! If you want to log in virtually, click here on your phone or computer, and have your adult beverage ready: https://meet.google.com/fbu-xbiy-jjs    Otherwise, grab your mask, sanitizer, chair, beverage, food, etc and come on over! Actual food, drink and seeing each other in person. Plus some music that you can move to! Let's do it!

Musings: "It's all about the music" Whether you realize it or not, how things go at the milonga is so dependent on the DJ. Have you been on the floor with your partner and the next song is so muddy you can't hear the beat? Have you been so exhausted you couldn't move, then heard that song that you couldn't resist? That's the DJ. Is the music too loud? Too soft? Distorted? Too slow? Too fast? Pauses too long or too short? The DJ is responsible. ANd perhaps the tango DJ has a harder job, because the list of danceable tangos is not that big. And of course, they set the tone for the night.
My best experience at a milonga, the one I always hope for, goes something like this. It is like being on a romantic date. First the DJ greets you with some gifts, and a little kiss. Then there is a bit of lighthearted banter, and a bit of touching. Some more conversation, then maybe a few kisses. That get passionate. Whew - time for some more lighthearted banter. OK, let's go for some more kisses. Some hugs, some embraces, some touching. Ohhh - that is a deep connection, definitely lots of feeling. It's building, more caresses, something is happening.....Time for some more conversation. Maybe some teasing, friendly joking, smiling, giggling - more caresses. more kisses, more -  You can see where this is going. You leave the dance with all of your emotions delighted, and an exhilaration that denies you rest. Here's hoping that you have more than a few of these in your tango lifetime.
