The TSoM board members hope that each of you is healthy and able to find ways to maintain your health, dance skills and sanity. The Board had 2 meetings before this COVID-19 stopped the entire tango community from one of our most favorite dances: Tango. Because we are committed to pursuing our goals throughout this pandemic, we had our March board meeting virtually and discussed many plans for the future but the main focus was on how we could be of help to the tango community right now. Two groups immediately came to mind; our local tango instructors and our most used and loved milonga venues. TSoM contacted the local tango teachers in our community (defined as those who currently teach individual and group classes) asking if we could be of help during the current economic unrest. It was stated that they could offer an online class or such if they chose. All the instructors stated they were financially stable at this point except for Miriam. This was public information since Miriam had opened a Go Fund Me campaign. Members of the Board and Miriam have been discussing the best way to help her at this time. We would encourage tangueros to contribute to Miriam Lea Ziven's Go Fund Me campaign if you want to personally assist her. TSoM also contacted Rebecca at Four Seasons, Kit at Triune and Len at the Eagles. Four Seasons has great concern about upcoming rent; Triune has some serious structural wall damage which will require a large sum of money to repair. Len indicated that the Eagles is financially stable at this time. The Board passed a motion to prepay Four Seasons and Triune for 2 milongas each to be scheduled in the future. This would give each venue $500 immediate cash for use during this crisis. Before these motions were voted on, there was extensive discussion and we felt our actions would be in line with the wishes of the TSoM community. Fran Howley tsom-board@mntango.org | | |
