Invasion Alert! -- Invasion Invitation!!
Most of us are looking forward to May, the arrival of spring, and to a fabulous weekend with Fabian & Lola on May 3-6. But this message is about something else; something potentially life-changing, maybe even dangerous. If you lack the courage of Hercules or Cleopatra, stop reading now.
It has a come to my attention that our Tango Heartland is not secure. Reliable sources have indicated a level 5 threat on the first week of May. That’s right. Exactly when you should be enjoying all those lovely spring tango delights, we’re going to be invaded. Shudder…
And what is this grave threat to our tango equanimity? Nothing less than the Irish!
Now you might ask, “Who have the Irish conquered lately?” I’ll tell you, “America, Rock and Roll, Hollywood, and on March 17 of every year: the world!” Just think: Liam Neeson, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Enya, Sinead O’Conner, Bono, U2, I could go on.)
This level 5 Tango threat is spearheaded by a nefarious group sometimes known as the Cork Tango Society. Don’t be lulled into complacence! These people come armed to the teeth with world-class weapons of emotional connection. Yes, gird yourselves for the onslaught of Irish charm. Deadly humour disguised in gentle speech, will still slay your heart! Warm embrace and lively steps may beguile the soul, but the transience of connection will soon drive you across the ocean to fill the void once more.

We have invited members of the Cork Tango Society to join us for a week of Tango, dancing, and fellowship; between the Wednesday evening May1 and the Tuesday evening May 7. I have met most of the group many times in my travels, and I have found them delightful in every good way. So here is our chance to be neighbours and friends with some very special guests from halfway ‘round the globe.
We are looking for a few happy hosts that will enjoy lodging a guest or two, and help them by sharing their adventure in our community.
Only a few of us will be able to host, but all of us will be able to enjoy their company on the week. I’d like to have a welcome party on Thursday 2 May, perhaps in combination with Milonga Cambalache. Come out and meet the invaders! Have a few tandas, a glass or a pint, share your stories and see if you’re not smiling from it all.
I’m looking for day-trip ideas! Thursday, Monday, and perhaps Tuesday I would like to give our guests a chance to see some part of Minnesota that’s not Tango. (I know, that doesn’t like me…)
What are the beautiful parts of our cities that you enjoy the most? Please help me make them available.
