Meet SusaN McKenna - Tango & I

At Tango & I we have a program called:  THE FAST TRACK  Growing a tango community takes time and patience. It is crucial to have tango mentors to help stimulate the tango students in our Minnesota tango community. For new and old tango students to feel safe, nurtured and connected in their learning environment. The objective of the fast track became very clear to me over the many years that I have been studying tango, including organizing, building a comprehensive and extensive tango curriculum, choreography, improvising, and researching pedagogy and andragogy : Building a holistic, friendly  and idealistic tango community through well thought out training of teachers, mentors and assistants: the Tango & I facilitators.  We are so very blessed to have Megan Harrington, Morgan Keil, Avery Harrington as part of that program. And now Susan is a full participant as well.    Meet her here online, OR in person of course, when you come and join our group classes, practica or Tango Challenge.

Susan: I began my dance life as a young teen in a local ballet company. I earned a degree in modern dance and spent the next decades performing and occasionally teaching modern dance and contact improvisation.

Dance has been my passion for over forty decades, but it was in 2013 that I first glimpsed Argentine tango on a street corner in Buenos Aires. I had already seen a big tango performance on stage, but it was these two eighty-year olds holding each other so closely in sync that really inspired me.  I thought to myself, "That's what I want...to dance this beautiful dance for the rest of my life." Life events interrupted that thought for a couple of years but the seed was planted. One day I .................

An All level Tango Technique workshop taught by Sabine Ibes

How do we connect, and how does a follower do that differently than a leader does? Why is that so important? You will be experiencing a true tango connection by adding technique - it will transform your tango!

Sabine uses slides to help you better understand your body movement, she also would like for you to bring socks ( bring the thick ones, brrrrr)
Wear comfortable pants that you are able to move in.

Friday May 3 - Milonga la Apertura -  At the Triune Temple in St. Paul

Lola Diaz and Fabian Salas are guests of Fred Gommels and the Blue Moon Ballroom. It will be their 6th annual event in Minnesota. As part of the festivities, Lola and Fabian are inviting YOU , yes YOU, the one who has enjoyed dancing tango for a while now, to be part of the show.

You can partner up with either Susan mcKenna, Morgan Keil or Sabine Ibes.
You have 3 months to practice a routine with your tango facilitator, to tango music of your choice. 
We can each only accommodate one partner per person!  So you will have to make up your mind very quick!

Once you talk to one of us in person, you can create your own package that will work for you ( i.e. how many private lessons, or mini private lessons, dates and locations)

Tango Topics Potluck Brunch AND Practica

Saturday February 16

You and your fellow dancers enjoying a Potluck brunch while listening to guest speakers, dancing, conversing - in short: a boatload of fun
The idea: Your guest speakers; Donna Edelstein, Paul Lohman and Erika Wannigman  will talk about a tango topic for about 5/10 minutes, and you and your tango friends will then converse amongst yourselves and try out some of the ideas brought to you.  

Bring a dish:
Last names
A-F Fruit
G-L Salad (be creative)
M-R Bread, Crackers, Cakes etc
S-Z Soups or .......

If you have: Gluten free will be lovely
Bring your own serving bowl and utensils

We will have Coffee, Tea, plates and cups
$10

we are off to a good start with 5 registered participants. BUT 10 would be so much better!  A 3 month in depth tango learning program. You do get everything tango presented to you! And it is too much fun.

Tango Festival in Helena Montana!

What a lovely opportunity to dance and play at a festival set near the mountains of Montana. Time to learn, connect, network, create tango moments with many different people from across the US. Because of the smaller setting of this festival, you will be able to dance so much more!

BEGINNERS: Wednesdays and Saturdays 6.30pm and 10am
your detailed curriculum - well sure, here you can view it

ALL LEVELS : Wednesdays at 7.30pm
THIS MONTH MILONGAAAAAAAA you know what that means, let's create rhythmic movement together, lets find the milonga in the music; LET'S DANCE MILONGA!

Intermediate and advanced: Wednesdays at 8.30
Cutting Corners in circular and linear ways!  You as a leader: Oh my word, there is a person in front of me I need to do "something" – You as a follower: while you are moving dreamingly along in your partners embrace ALL of a sudden there is a change in lead; how do I react? BOTH as leader and follower: what music is playing again?????
