July Edition

July is for fireworks,  good food and fun!

Tango FUNdamentals 7pm we will be working on Sacadas. A he said, she said ( or leader said follower said) kind of month.  We will start with a basic sacada and weaving our way into more complex movement.

Developing Your Tango Body series 8pm.  We are going to look at how we stack our body from ground up.  What does that mean and how does that effect our turns.

Food for thought ....

What goes into your body?

The foods of summer, they look amazing and taste great too, but how does this relate to dancing?  And why are we talking about it today?

We have to remember that what
we put in our bodies is the fuel we
   use for dancing.  Remember the
   old saying garbage in, garbage
   out.

The same is true for your body.  The food that you put into it can make you a high performance vehicle or leave you sputtering and spurting with no reserves.

A couple of easy places to start :

1) Eat things as close to what they look like in nature, in otherwords minimally processed.

2) Limit sugar intake.  Current recommendation are to limit ADDED sugar to 25 grams (6 teaspoonful or 100 calories) for women and 37.5 grams (9 teaspoonful or 150 calories) for men according to the recommendation of the American Heart Association. That means all forms of sugar, honey , maple syrup , brown sugar etc.  Not just the processed stuff.  Be aware of the sugar content in fruit juices as well.

3) Drink water -   a quick and easy method to calculate the minimum you should have is the 8 X 8 rule.  Drink 8 glasses of water each glass containing 8 ounces.  The more you perspire or and move the more water you will need.

4) Listen to your body - everyone is different.  What you can eat and feel good may be different for other people.  It is important to notice how a certain food makes you feel after you eat it.
I have more tips that I will add each month to help you build a strong and healthy tango body.
