| | | We are so excited to bring Susana Miller to the Twin Cities! Rarely are we able to have a teacher of her caliber here, and she will bring so much to the community! Susana Miller is the most prominent teacher in the world today of the "milonguero" style of tango." She is the one who took the time and patience to define the difference between how tango is actually danced by the locals at local milongas in Buenos Aires and how it is taught – which is all too often a stage dance that is not milonga friendly. She has been able to decipher their distinct vocabularies and choreographic combinations, and found a way to transmit these to students. Susana Miller is coming to town. I have the strongest desire to share her with all my tango friends. Her tango teachings go very deep. If you have not experienced a class with la maestra - you should! And if you already have - its time to dip once more in the well of tango wisdom. These workshops are going to be great! (Lexa Roséan, 2014) Susana encourages students to employ more rhythm in their dance, to discover their own dance vocabularies, and to learn how to shape and shrink these in space. For women, she encourages active following, in which the woman interprets the messages that the leader's body and the spirit are sending. Clarin, the major Buenos Aires daily paper, called her one of the four most important influences on contemporary tango, along with Miguel Angel Zotto, Gustavo Naveira and Gerardo Portalea.
