* What is the "fast track"?

A warm hello to all Argentine tango lovers in the twin city area,

With the quiet arrival of the month of december, we also enter a new month at Tango and I. We go out of our way to keep the lessons fun, informative, creative and did I mention fun? By learning from many out of town teachers, traveling to different cities and abroad ( including Buenos Aires) and practicing our own tango by leading and following. In addition we make sure we always go over the lesson material extensively before class, to be even better prepared. We are able to keep the lessons fresh while not forgetting about the historical tango foundations which have made this dance so rich. At Tango and I we have developed a "fast track" program ( info below) and now we are very happy to introduce to you, our newest Tango and I learner:    Marcy Muldoon.     Over the years I personally have come to know Marcy as an eager student, always asking questions, taking notes, practicing and enthusiastically participating in classes and workshops. She loves to laugh, is open to new ideas and is not afraid to tackle the tough choices either. Marcy is an outgoing person and easy to get along with, a joy to have in class and a pleasure to teach. Here is what she writes about herself:

I was a ballroom dancer when a friend gave me an Argentine tango lesson as a gift in 1999. It did not go well. The concept of a leader's chest moving the follower's legs was totally foreign to me and I did not understand it. . Many lessons and a year later, I had come to love the tango connection, prompting several visits to Bs As to study and dance tango. I've since studied with various artists throughout the US, including Gustavo and Giselle, Cecelia Gonzales and Tomas Howlin. Locally, I have studied most recently with Sabine at SDS for four years.

Tango's improvisational nature and its lush music have inspired me as a follower, and more recently as a leader. When I retired this year, I knew I wanted to explore sharing this rich dance with others. It was exciting to discover the Fast track program to give me this opportunity.

Do come and meet Marcy at our lessons, practica or milonga!  In addition to Marcy, David Hassis has been part of the fast track. He is now assisting and co-teaching the beginner and all level classes. Diana Devi also started in the fast track and is now a co-teacher. She teaches the beginner classes and has developed her own curriculum in the All level classes.  Ann Person was on the fast track team, but, alas, work duties has whisked her away from us, sad sigh. She does come in from time to time to help out!!!

Topics for the December tango classes

Wednesday evenings 6.30 A beginner class
Getting familiar with the 8 count basic for week #1
Turns in the 8 count basic for week # 5

If you are a beginner tango dancer, you do not need to bring a partner to class. We make sure that there are always dance partners, instructors and assistants available to dance with you. You will not be sitting down in these classes! Bring shoes that you can pivot ( spin ) in easily. The first class at SDS is free, tell your friends!

7.30 The all level classes A & B
The first week we will take a better look at the valz, why is it different than the tango or the milonga? And what are the possibilities?  The second week we will tackle the milonga and the third we will actually be dancing all three: tango, valz and milonga. To experience the great variety in music.

We will be working on your level, so everybody will have something to learn!

8.30 Intermediate/advanced class
And we continue what we started in the 7.30 class, but with a spin or two. Digging our heels a little deeper into the possibilities of the valz, and milonga.

What is the fast track?

The Tango Fast Track:

1.      Group classes:  Sabine Ibes and Diana Devi teach 3 levels of Argentine Tango classes every Wednesday.  A fast track student will have to attend all three every week in either a leading or following role, which ever is needed to compliment the students.  As time progresses the student will be called on to either show or explain some of the material. They will also start assisting more in class and help coach the students.

2.     Practicas :  Every Saturday morning from 10:30 to 12:00 Social Dance Studio offers a Tango practica as a resource for students to practice what they have learned.  Music is played and students are welcome to either dance the music as they would at a regular milonga (a Tango dance) or practice new material off to the side or on the floor.  An instructor is there to help answer questions. The fast track student must attend most practicas and offer guidance when approached, and lead or follow.

3.     Milongas:  Sabine and Diana host a milonga (Tango Dance) at the Social Dance Studio the 4th Saturday of every month. As a fast track student you will be helping out as needed for the class before hand and at this one milonga you are on "duty" to dance as much with students as possible.

Hope to see you on the dance floor soon,

Sabine Ibes and Diana Devi plus the Tango and I team.
