[TSOM-Announce] Fwd: A message from Carrie Field - Adapted Tango teacher training

Dear Tango friends,
Some of you may recall meeting Carrie at the Saturday evening milonga.  She has family here in the Twin Cities.
The following information explains her work and an opportunity for Tango dancers to receive Adapted Tango Teacher Training.

Dear tango community,

It is my personal dream that each state has a teacher that offers Adapted Tango classes for populations in need.

I am writing to announce this opportunity to learn the method of teaching Adapted Tango from the founder, Dr. Madeleine Hackney. This is the first time her teacher training is being offered west of the Rockies. I took this teacher training in 2014, in Florida. Upon returning home, I held a class for balance challenged individuals in my community in Taos, New Mexico. Tango has offered me so much, yet this was by far the most fulfilling tango experience I have had. We know from our personal experience that tango can be healing.  There is now ten years of scientific evidence showing how tango helps improve balance, gait, and mobility as well as decrease depression, increase activity, and quality of life in older adults as well as adults with Parkinson's.

Maybe you will join us in Albuquerque in August, for the Adapted Teacher Training. I hope you find a way to share your passion with others, whatever it is.

All my best,

Carrie Field

This teacher training is designed for dancers and dance instructors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, fitness instructors and personal trainers interested in sharing argentine tango with older adults and adults with Parkinson's. Dr. Hackney's system has been used in over 10 studies helping older adults, adults with Parkinson's, and older adults with visual impairment to improve balance, gait and mobility, as well as enhancing quality of life.

Dr. Madeleine Hackney began studying the benefits of tango for adults with Parkinson's in 2006. The results were extremely positive and twelve years later Adapted Tango classes are now offered in several states in the U.S., in the United Kingdom, Japan and Israel.

Attendees of this weekend workshop will receive a manual, training and the experience needed to teach Adapted Tango in their own community or facility. This course provides 1.2 CECs from the American Council on Exercise.
