Feb. Classes: Milonga month! Milonga is lighthearted, playful - all the things you want to have in your tango. It can be easier to get the embrace, the posture, floorcraft, and to listen to the music with milonga. And it is really good for followers! Cures any tendency to anticipate - any follower who has been dancing for any time has heard that word too often. Milonga in all classes this month. In Advanced - this is a technique class, not so much a "new fancy move" class. This takes your tango to the next level, and only if want to work at it.

Musings: The Tango Embrace. Almost mythical in the way it is talked about, many who have been to Buenos Aires get so addicted to it that they sell all their possessions and move there, just to get a chance at more of them. Many who I have met there say that it is exclusive to the Portenó/a. They only find that bliss in the arms of an Argentine - ok, with some exceptions. I know what they mean, because I have felt it often, and been disappointed to find it so seldom in Americans and Europeans. I have been honored to have been asked if I was an Argentine, because I have worked hard to develop my embrace. I know that it can be taught, and the only reason Americans and Europeans are not better at it, is because they don't put enough emphasis on it. It should be more important to us. We need more of those exceptions. |
