What:  Weekly Tuesday night tango at Dance With Lois Donnay

When: Tuesday, Nov 26. Lessons by Dave Rost and Greta Larson $15; beginners at 6:30pm, intermediates at 8:00pm; PARTY begins at 9:00pm $5 or bring food or beverage to share.

About: Yes! Lois is still dancing and partying and enjoying warm weather in Buenos Aires. But the Tuesday night regulars are not giving up their Tuesday night tango fix. Once again, we will invade her home and studio to create some tango fun.

This week's theme: Should you care to join in the nuttiness, this week's theme is ROOTS. Through food, drink or dress, represent your ancestral heritage. Or bring something Argentinian to honor the roots of tango. Or ... be literal and bring something made from roots. Think potatoes, onions, beets, peanuts, etc.

Not into themes? That's okay. We silly ones need an appreciative audience.

[TSOM-Announce] Friday - Milonga Mala Yunta - DJ: Bob Barnes

Milonga Mala Yunta in November features DJ Bob Barnes, with innovative but traditional tandas. Are you ready for the adventure within the tradition?


Admission: $10* ($5 full time students with id)
*as usual, we provide delicious snacks and drinks, so please consider adding $2 to help us cover the costs. You may add them to the admission fee or to the donation jar located on the counter.
Admission includes snacks, drinks and raffle.

Location: Four Seasons Dance Studio, Minneapolis.

NOTE: This will be a traditional milonga with the addition of traditional tangos interpreted by modern orchestras!

As you may know, there are milongas in BA where DJs play nothing but recordings of living tango orchestras playing for dancers. Bands like Sexteto Milonguero (you saw them live here in the Twin Cities 3 years ago), Orquesta Romantica Milonguera, La Juan D'Arienzo, El Cachivache, El Andariego, San Souci, Gente de Tango, and many others. Bob will include tandas with these orchestras.

As usual, tanda of chacarera is included!

[TSOM-Announce] Luciana Valle: Dancers lace your shoes and get ready!

Hello everyone,

Luciana is on her way, and the Intensivo Norte' begins this weekend! Before this all starts in earnest, thank you for taking on this adventure. This is a different experience and an experiment in what might be called a community bootstrap intensive. TM Many thoughtful and creative friends and teachers contributed to this idea, and for them I'm very grateful. Let's remember it's an experiment in growing and sharing our tango, and that we can adapt as we need.

[TSOM-Announce] Rahul Ughade "Costa Norte" reboot this Friday night at Four Seasons Dance Studio

We welcome Rahul as DJ this week as part of Costa Norte. This takes the place of Michael Cordner's regularly scheduled event Puro Tango. Micheal will enjoy family activities this weekend.  Hopefully the community will support this last minute change! [TSOM-Announce] Luciana Valle: Registration Notes

Hello everyone,

Luciana Valle and our first BA style Progressive Intensivo Norte'  is nearly upon us!    The classes run 21-25 November with 5 days of precision tango training. If you have energy leftover, your work can be punctuated by some great milongas, live music, and one of my favorite practicas! ( Mala Junta, Tango con~Fusion, Rouge Tango, and Desperados Practica) You can download the current flyer/schedule from lucidtango.net

Several weeks back, registration was closed.  To those of you who were unable to sign up this year: This is most definitely an early bird kind of seminar. The spaces filled faster than expected, and we are sorry that we had to turn some folk away.  Please keep next year in mind, when we hope to make this even better.

For those of you attending: Service track dancers are only expected to support the glide track dancers for classes 1-4. Then they are free agents. If you are in the glide track and registered for classes 5 & 6, you should know who your partner is for those classes. If you do not, contact me quickly so we can sort it out.

In case you've forgotten the overall plan, I've reprinted some notes below on the intensivo structure or you can challenge yourself to read the original long-form flyer.

I'll organize the privates later this week and publish on the lucidtango.net page. (Last year's list is still up. So please don't be confused by that. The current year will say 2019 when it posts)

One last point: A lot of great people have invested their energy, intelligence, patience and support to this project. It really is a community effort. And all of you dancing in any role will be pouring yourselves into this project. So a huge "Thank You" to my generous friends who have done so much! And thanks in advance to those of you who have dared to sign up and join this adventure! Let's rock it!

From the original announcement: Here is the big picture, there will be three tracks:

·        Glide Track: Boosted learning experience! 
Dance exclusively with Luciana's North Coast team of selected Service Track dancers in the foundational and intermediate classes. 
Glide Track Dancers can also take the advanced classes, but they must sign up with a partner, or wait to be matched.

·        Service Track: Turn your tango up to 11, train and work as a Luciana assistant and help our community grow!  
As a Service Track dancer, you will enjoy exclusive access to Luciana's assistant training. You will help Glide Track dancers learn faster, smoother, and easier in the foundation and intermediate classes. Enjoy the more advanced classes with the partner of your choice or rotate on your own terms. And you will have exclusive access to bonus Service Track dancers only classes!

·        Standard Track:
For dancers who don't want to participate in the Glide or Service Tracks, and are willing to sign up with a partner, or wait to be matched.  Entry to all foundational, intermediate, and advanced seminars; rotating with other Standard Track dancers or with your partner.

This will be tricky!  We have only a limited number of spaces.  We have to recruit and select Service Track dancers, and we have to work harder match our applicants to their roles. 

 

This intensivo is progressive!

You must take the early classes to be able to take the later classes. This way, when you are in class 5 and Luciana reminds you of the technique element that makes it work, we don't have to stand waiting while she re-explains previous material to folk who skipped the foundations. Everyone has the right foundation, and so we progress faster and further, together.

 

This is not your average seminar

Intensivo Norte is not for the faint of heart or ego! Sorry about that, but let's just acknowledge it! If you don't like this structure, our community will have many other seminar weekends, and that's good for all of us. If you do take this seminar and have constructive criticism, we'll be interested to from hear you.  

 

Spaces are truly limited

There will be no late bird, sleeping/dead bird options, only early bird. Apply asap, as the few spaces will go quickly.  We are already fielding inquiries from Luciana students locally and from around the country.

 

Rotations
Because of the special nature of this seminar series, partner rotations are unique.  See the Intensivo Norte Schedule for rotation options.

The Intensivo Week is built around the concept of dancers being dancers. What defines leaders or followers is their dance role. If you are occasionally surprised by the partner you have, savour your experience until the next rotation!
