[TSOM-Announce] Birthday, Visiting Dancers, Tomas Howlin...

Hello, all, three bits to share:

1. Thanks to those who sent me birthday wishes yesterday (Dec. 28). I've made many friends because of this dance... yay, I'm another year wiser :)

2. Registrations continue to flow in for Tomas Howlin Jan. 9-11 ... last day for early prices ($110 for 5 classes, $25 for 1 class) ends Jan. 5. Walk-ins welcome but door prices higher ($130 for 5 classes, $30 per class). 

REMINDER: I encourage early registration because I value a balanced class. Right now, we are balanced. Equal number of lead and follows means no one has to sit out. As an organizer, I have a good track record of this. But I need your help to maintain this.

3. We have dancers coming from out of town, including Canada, Iowa, Nebraska and Rochester, MN... one Omaha couple, for example, has never been to our city for tango BUT has met some of us at ABQ tango fest. And think we're the nicest people on earth!

Anyway, if you want to host this couple or someone else, let me know. (No deals from me, but I could get you a free meal or two from your guests.)

[TSOM-Announce] Tango Craving / Tango Tidings... Practilonga on Monday 29 Dec :)

The presents are opened, the turkey is gone, the relatives too, even the mess is cleaned up.  Now we can get back to what we really wanted for Christmas,  more dancing!

 

The Tango Desparados invite you to join us for a Holiday Practilonga. Starting at 7:30 and running `till 11:30-ish. 10 dollars at the door. Desperados are free:) Plenty of off-street parking with libations available from the Eagles friendly bar staff. The estimable DJ Pablo will spin aural magic for us, and we will turn on the Christmas lights. If you can resist the lure of simply dancing to exquisite music, the center of the floor is open for practicing technique, vocabulary, and silly walks, etc.

 

If you find  suddenly that you wish to embrace your inner Desparado, talk to Scott , Mike, or Alice. You could become Desperado Certified at the door by joining us for 13 weeks and the Practilonga will be free for you too. [TSOM-Announce] milonga Puro Tango

Once again a late announcement, I will be hosting the milonga again Friday night Dec. 19th.

Take a holiday breather and come down and enjoy an evening of beautiful tangos.

Admission is as always a mere $10 and students $8.

The music starts at 9:30 and the dancing begins when you arrive.

[TSOM-Announce] Milonga Caliente with LIVE MUSIC!

Please join the UTango club at Milonga Caliente, with live accompaniment by the UTango Quintet!  If you missed hearing them during the MinneMadness Tango Festival, come hear them this weekend. DJ Eric Li will play music between live sets.  The milonga will be located above the basement in the Assembly Room (with a tile floor) - enter off University Avenue.

This will be the last milonga of our fall UTango session, so please come meet some of our students!

When: Saturday, December 20th, 9pm, live music at 11pm.

[TSOM-Announce] Thanks - TSoM December Milonga; January elections

60+ people danced at the Four Seasons Dance Studio to live music ,  by Bob Barnes and Jarrod Wendland. In between Paul Lohman spun the tunes.  Scott Chase kept the gate.   Connie Stack and Yevgeniya Sviridova provided the food and Xmas themed decorations. 

20 people took the lesson led by Niko Salagdo.

Yevgeniya Sviridova provided us with information on our featured December-born composers, Julio de Caro, and Carlos Gardel.

Paul Stachour received a gift from the committee for his 7 years of service as Database Administrator. 

Everyone was having such a great time we kept the floor open until 2am!

[TSOM-Announce] Tomas - Tango Weekend Update

The early bird catches the worm...

BIG THANKS to all you Tomas Howlin fans who have sent me registrations and checks! Wow. He's got some fans! Also, all private slots are gone. I've started a waiting list.

REMINDER: We are getting close to holiday mailing rush. So, IF you plan to take classes, mail those babies in today. Two other reasons:

1. I will not accept early-bird prices/payments after Jan. 5. (Higher door prices apply; so no begging, please, and none of that "oh, but the postmark says...")

2. I can better balance lead-follow in the classes when I know who's coming. (I hate sitting out coz of extras, don't you?)

Oh, I can't wait... Tomas is a patient and kind teacher. And he tells the funniest jokes and most interesting stories!

[TSOM-Announce] Milonga en el Alma this Saturday, December 6

It's the last Milonga en el Alma of 2014!

Join me Saturday night, December 6, in downtown Minneapolis for a night of Argentine Tango at Four Seasons Dance Studio. Relax in an inviting, bohemian atmosphere and dance to the classic tangos of the Golden Age. Although there is no lesson beforehand, beginners are welcome.

Light snacks, wine and soft drinks are available. Feel free to BYOB.

[TSOM-Announce] Scheduling for 2015 Instructor/DJ assignments to be tomorrow, Dec 5th, 3p.m , Caribou attached to Lunds at 63rd and Penn

Fellow Argentine Tango Dancers,

 

    2014 is coming to a close, and 2015 will soon be upon us.

Every year, those individuals on the tsom-board list of instructors and DJs submit their date-preferences

for teaching and/or Dj'ing at the TSOM Milongas.  Tomorrow, Dec 5th, at 3p.m., I will be crating the

rotation-schedule from the preferences which have been received.   This will be done at the Caribou

attached to the Lunds store at 63rd & Penn in Richfield, starting at 3p.m.  Any TSOM member who

wishes to observe the process by which the assignments are made is welcome to join me.

 

[You'll need to pay for your own beverage, though, this is not a "Paul treats" event.   {Smile} ]
