[TSOM-Announce] Tango dancers urgently needed at Mall of America demonstration!
This Thursday the Mall of America has asked the local ballroom dance club USADance to demonstrate their talents at a special show in the Mall of America rotunda. USADance has given a time slot to Argentine Tango dancers.
So far, we only have 3 couples who have signed on to participate. This is no way to grow our community! Please show your love of tango by coming out and dancing for 2.5 minutes to an easy tango song. You do not need to have special tango skills - just a desire to show people how lovely Argentine Tango is. We will not do special choreography. We would like to fill the floor with beautiful tango dancers, who just enjoy the dance.
The show is this Thursday, October 30th, at 7:00. Please respond to me and say you can help!
Also, start planning your costume for the Halloween Milonga on October 31st at St. Petersburg. First prize is a pair of hand-made shoes from Argentina, Second prize is a free private lesson. Costumes aren't required, of course.

[TSOM-Announce] Tango exhibition opportunity in Plymouth
Hello tangueros, tangueras
Hi!
I organize International Night at Oakwood Elementary School in Plymouth, MN. The event will be on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015, from 6-8pm. This is an opportunity for families to share their cultures (they represent countries of their heritage or interest with table displays in the gymnasium). Our theme this year is South America, which means that we will have samples of foods from different South American countries for families to taste and a cultural presentation or entertainment from that part of the world. In the past, we've had dancers and musicians. The children especially enjoyed the guests who not only performed but also shared stories from their culture or by taught the children a dance or let them experiment with the instruments. There are so many wonderful ways to engage the children and really create a meaningful experience for them in one night!
Would someone from your group be interested and available to demonstrate Argentine tango at our event? It would be a wonderful way for us to have a little focus on Argentina but also, some of our K-5 students think they know what tango is from cartoons and movies; it would be fun to show them "the real thing". Maybe even 2 styles, one more dramatic and one less. Also, some of their parents might be interested in learning tango and not aware of your organization or opportunities - I was excited when I came across your website ;-) .
Please let me know if this is something you might be interested in / able to help us out with.
An elementary school in Plymouth with a multi-cultural interest is celebrating South America at their school's "International Night" in January. TSoM has been approached to demonstrate Argentine tango to their students, staff and parents. The program is open yet as to what we will do, but for now I'm seeking interested dancers who would like to participate. I copied the body of the inquiry I received from a representative of the school. It contains all I know at this point.
I'd like to have two to three couples committed by early November.
As always, in appreciation of those who love to perform,
Don Rowe
Events Coordinator

[TSOM-Announce] Loring Pasta Bar
There has been a lot of talk recently and concern that LPB is less than enthusiastic with the Sunday night Tango. Last Sunday I received more feedback from the Tango community and decided to initiate conversation with the LPB management. My questions were respectfully received and respectfully answered. I was asked to look around at the areas where we were sitting or where we had literally dropped shoes and coats. Andres, the Manager, expressed that he is hired to manage a restaurant and felt our belongs (tossed next to and under chairs/tables) detracted from the restaurant atmosphere. He personally likes the music and likes having the dancers there; however, we can make some changes to encourage a positive relationship with LPB.
There is a basement area in which there is a place for our shoes and our coats! This was news to me and I felt it important to pass this knowledge on so that starting this Sunday those at LPB could ask for the location of that area and start using it. Here is where we can change our shoes and store shoe bags and coats.
I will continue the conversation with Loring Pasta Bar management for those of us who go on Sunday nights and for the Tango community at large. We love the live music, atmosphere and dancing and it would be a tremendous lose if we were asked to discontinue there.
I am aware that on occasion the floor has been less than ideal....dirty and sticky. My hope is that as we become respectful to the restaurant (It's not a private milonga.), LPB will be more aware of our needs and more willing to accommodate us.
PLEASE remind your friends and pass this information to those who are not members of TSoM. If you have any questions or concerns, I will be very willing to listen and communicate with LPB.
Thank you
Fran

[TSOM-Announce] No Puro Tango this Friday night at Four Seasons
We will have no tango milonga this Friday evening at Four Seasons Dance. Micheal Cordner has decided to step aside this week to encourage attendance at the Saturday night event for Tamara and the Alejandro Ziegler dance on Saturday . Thanks to Micheal for forgoing his party this week so as not to split the community and create a situation that might diffuse interest in the Saturday night event!
Hope the dancers of the community will support the wonderful live music opportunity at Four Seasons Dance this Saturday night and we will welcome Micheal and his Puro Tango back next month!
